Seminar Held on Human Trafficking and North East Migration and Challenges in Mega Cities

Network Formed to Address the Challenges of Human Trafficking in North East India Region

Dimapur (Nagaland), January 28, 2011

All India Christian Council along with North East Support Centre & Helpline conducted one day seminar on human trafficking and North East Migration and challenges in Mega cities. Seminar was hosted by Baptist Pastors Fellowship at Rengma Baptist Church at Dimapur. Over 150 church leaders and civil societies joined seminar.

Dr. Sam Paul, Public Affair National Secretary of All India Christian Council in his address, has highlighted about our Indian constitutional rights that has been enacted for every citizens of India. ‘To address the issue of human trafficking, civil societies and churches need to work together to bring awareness to general public,’ says Dr. Sam Paul.

Madhu Chandra, Spokesperson of North East Support Centre & Helpline, his discourse about ‘Northeast Migration and Challenges in Mega cities’ has said that the Northeast women including girls are the most targeted as ‘˜racial discrimination’ in metros today. ‘The challenges faced by North East communities in mega cities have changed paradigm shift from racial discrimination to sexual violence and now it is shifting to human trafficking,’ says Madhu Chandra.

Mrs. Liansi Niumai John, General Secretary, Naga Women Hoho Dimapur spoke about the roles of civil societies in tackling the challenges of human trafficking. She challenges to connect with various civil societies, churches and NGOs working.

Seminar resolved to form a network including churches, civil societies and NGOs addressing issues of human trafficking and it will play important role as Dimapur being exit point for Manipur, Nagaland, Assam.
