Join Liberation Movement… UNLF Exhorts People

On the occasion of the 24th anniversary of the Manipur People’s Army (MPA), the Military Affairs Committee (MAC) of the proscribed UNLF has called upon the people to join the liberation movement enmasse.

Until and unless the people join the liberation movement in a complete manner, the liberation movement would never succeed.

Further, calling upon the people to participate actively in the UNLF’s proposal for plebiscite as a means of resolving the Manipur-India conflict, the outfit pointed out that the proposal needs full backing and people’s movement in order to realize it.

A statement issued by the outfit’s acting Chairman Kh Pambei greeted the people of Manipur on the occasion of MPA 24th raising day.

It asserted that liberation movement of Manipur is indispensable, and is justified and would be decisive in determining the future political destiny of the different communities of the land.

The MPA’s struggle backed by the people is a war to regain the sovereignty of Manipur, allegedly confiscated with force.

The emergence of colonialism was closely followed by the rise of liberation movements.

The liberation movement of Manipur is also a result of the alleged forceful annexation of Manipur by India.

The UNLF’s army wing MPA was set up as compelled by the situation in which it was inevitable to face the Indian army. Since then the MPA have been fighting against the alien forces.

The MPA’s resistance movement is to protect Manipur and save the indigenous people of the land from the atrocities and repressive measures of the alien rule.

New Delhi’s propaganda that the liberation movement of Manipur is rebellion against the Government of India has no truth. But the liberation movement is a struggle to regain the lost sovereignty of Manipur, confiscated by India with force.

On the other hand, the Government of India’s war to suppress the people of Manipur has no justifiable ground. This is well testified by the tradition and history of liberation movements across the world.

“Because of all these reasons, the Government of India would fall and our justified struggle would ultimately triumph. Our war of liberation is for all the people, not for any particular section”, the outfit asserted while adding that the Government of India should take note of these facts.

On the contrary, the Government of India has been imposing several draconian Acts like the Armed Forces (Special Powers) Act 1958 in the North East region including Manipur.

Under the infamous AFSPA, many insurgents and innocent people are being tortured and killed while numerous women were raped and molested as many were maimed for life. Further, a number of people were forced to disappear involuntarily.

All these activities are innate characters of colonialism and this would ultimately prove to be graveyard of the alien rule, the outfit alleged.

Even as the Government of India has been proudly claiming that it is the largest democracy in the world, it cannot act on its own without seeking consent of its armed forces.  The Government of India’s accession to its armed forces’ objection to abolition of AFSPA which the latter use as a shield while committing all kinds of human rights violation is a clear testimony to Government of India’s inability to act without consent of its own army.

That is why; the Government of India is stubbornly refusing to pay any heed to the cry of the people of the region and a large number of international human right   groups to repeal AFSPA.

This is not a character of a democratic country though AFSPA has been literally keeping the people       on tenterhooks in a highly insecure atmosphere.

In addition to the draconian laws like AFSPA, the alien rule has been creating several agencies, the latest being the National Investigation Agency (NIA).

The NIA is adept in secret and covert operations and this was testified by its audacity to produce Chairman Sana Yaima with a claim that he was arrested from Bihar 61 days after the Chairman was arrested from Dhaka, Bangladesh.

NIA, a secret agency of the alien rule, has been scheming to award heavier punishment to all “patriots, their supporters and suspected patriots”, the outfit alleged.

The Government of India has been deliberately refusing to acknowledge the fact that the alleged forceful annexation of Manipur by India is the root cause of the liberation movement.  The alien rule’s secret agency NIA should not be allowed to make any foothold in Manipur, the outfit asserted.

Another important point is that UNLF MAC would like to appeal to all the communities in Manipur for mass participation in the ongoing liberation movement for achieving the goal, the statement of the UNLF’s acting chairman Kh Pambei further said.

Without the participation of the people, the liberation movement would not be successful. So, the people should take forward the proposal of plebiscite moved by UNLF for resolving the Manipur-India conflict. For this it is important for the public to stand firm and carry forward the movement, Pambei exhorted.

Pambei observed that if India believes in the true principle of democracy, then it should accept the 4-point proposal for plebiscite to test and decide whether the movement of UNLF in Manipur is for the liberation of the people or just the activities of some war mongers.

This challenge should be accepted. If India accepts the proposal to hold a plebiscite, it is inevitable that a new face of Manipur can be seen.

At that time, every community in Manipur would be able to ensure protection of their respective identities and mutual respect for each other. Along with an administration founded on the principle of autonomy at every level, participation of representatives from even communities having just 300 population would be ensured in the administration for all round developmental activities of their respective communities.

However, after Manipur has been annexed by India, all the communities in Manipur have been leading a life no better than death and there is the fear of dominating the indigenous people by the ever increasing influx of Indian people.

Today, the population of outsiders has crossed 8 lakh. This is one-third of the entire population of the State.

In the next 10 years, the population of the outsiders may become half of the total population reducing the indigenous people to the status of minority. In such a situation, the only means for our own survival is to take part in the ongoing liberation movement for right to self-determination. So, all the communities should play their part and carry out their responsibility in resolving the Manipur-India conflict, Pambei reiterated his appeal.

Pambei went on to say that attainment of independence by East Timor after holding a plebiscite and more recently, the liberation of South Sudan after a referendum should be remembered. Pambei went on to say that attainment of independence by East Timor after holding a plebiscite and more recently, the liberation of South Sudan after a referendum should be remembered.

The referendum for deciding the fate of South Sudan was held from January 8 to 15 this year. In the referendum, 99.58 percent of the total population of South Sudan voted for independence. Accordingly, in July this year, a formal announcement for the liberation of South Sudan would be made to become the 193 member-country of UN. Just like the repressive and suppressive activities of India in Manipur, South Sudanese in North Sudan, who could no longer bear with similar repression, started fighting for the cause of liberation since 1955. Under certain conditions, the liberation movement remained suspended since 1972.

But it resumed from 1983 and today, South Sudan has attained independence. Similarly, the lost sovereignty of Manipur would be able to regain and save from the atrocities of India, if only plebiscite could be hold to resolve the Manipur-India conflict.

Along with this, MPA would continue his offensive activities against the security forces. In past confrontations, MPA have killed many security personnel while wounded many others. Many of the MPA cadres too have sacrificed their lives for the cause of independence while many others have been impaired for life. Such sacrifices are nothing but the cost of independence for the people. MPA would never turn it’s faced from the battle field until Manipur regains its independence, Pambei pledged.

Reiterating the appeal to all the like-minded revolutionary groups fighting for the same goal of liberation for working together under a common banner, Pambei urged that the people should also extend their support in this regard. Such collective strength and unity can only liberated Manipur.

The stand of the people for the liberation movement and their open slogans, ‘We want Plebiscite’, ‘Long live UNLF’, ‘Welcome Chairman Sana Yaima’ at the time where the whereabouts of chairman Sana Yaima was kept concealed for long after being arrested, has shown a new face of the liberation movement. It was a sign of progress in the movement. For this UNLF MAC is thankful to all the people, Pambei said.

Lastly, on the occasion of 24th anniversary of MPA, UNLF MAC would like to extend revolutionary salute and greeting to all the leaders and cadres of revolutionary groups fighting for the cause of independence and conveyed the message for collective strength and unity, Pambei said, while extending salute to all the cadres who have sacrificed their lives or maimed for life in their fight for liberation as well as to all the people who have suffered in the hands of the security forces.
