UNC’s Demand Unacceptable: GPRN/NSCN

IMPHAL, Feb 25: The Shepoumaramth Region, GPRN/NSCN has categorically stated that the UNC’s demand for an alternative arrangement for Nagas of Manipur is unacceptable.

Maintaining that Nagas in general and ‘Southern Nagas’ in particular would be spared of the confusion and division arising out of the activities of the United Naga Council in recent times, the GPRN/NSCN pointed out that  the United Naga Council (UNC) is a civil society body and has been a part of Forum for Naga Reconciliation (FNR).

A component of many a reconciliation meeting, the UNC has, however, surprised the Naga people by placing a political demand on the Government of India seeking for an alternative political arrangement under the Indian constitution.

The UNC is not a political body and therefore it is not a right platform to make any political demand, the GPRN/NSCN said in a press statement.  Shepoumaramth Region GPRN/NSCN will not be a part of UNC’s diabolical stand. It is too ambiguous and bereft of political wisdom.

Being a part of FNR and demanding Alternative Political Arrangement from the GOI at the same time is a double standard.

FNR is for Naga Reconciliation and Unity, UNC is doing the opposite.

UNC is also the mastermind behind the demand to make Ukhrul the summer capital of Manipur. There is also a whisper that Phungyar under Ukhrul district will be made a separate district and UNC and its leadership cannot claim to be innocent in all these divisive activities.  Any demand that contradicts Naga political stand is against the will of the Naga people and therefore shall be resisted in strongest terms.

There is sufficient reason to believe that UNC has committed treason against the Naga people.

Those people driving UNC must immediately stop employing divisive politics.

Clarifying that the Shepoumaramth region will not be a part of UNC’s demand for alternative political arrangement under the constitution of India,  it appealed to the Naga people in general and those inhabiting the four districts of Manipur in particular to wake up to the reality.
