Trinamool Congress Eyes Victory In By-Election

IMPHAL, Jan 30: Maintaining that the ensuing by- election to Konthoujam Assembly Constituency is a contest between the public and the Congress led ruling SPF Government, president of Manipur Pradesh Trinamool Congress Kim Gangte has stated that party candidate Konthoujam Sarat would definitely emerge triumphant.

Talking to mediapersons, Kim Gangte categorically asserted that Konthoujam Sarat is going to win the by-election as there is wide-spread discontentment among the people of the Constituency over the failure of reaching out the benefit of the Local Area Development Fund during the time of its earlier sitting MLA. So, the by-election is going to be a straight fight MPTC and the people of Konthoujam on one side and the ruling Congress on the other.

On the stand of the party in contesting the by-election, Kim Gangte said that it is to bring about a change in the society. People in both the hills and the valley are suffering a lot under the present Government. So, the Trinamool Congress is challenging the Congress party.

The former MP went on to say that it is funny that the Congress party is claiming of the Government led by it is a stable Government when the Chief Minister who is clinching on to the Home portfolio has been unleashing a reign of terror among the people. With the present Government resorting to killing and arrest of people at its own whim and fancy, life of the people Manipur today is really insecure.

It is despicable that the Congress led Government has not been able find out the killers of BOSEM Chairman Dr N Kunjamohan, despite the fact that he was killed in his own office room located in the high security zone Babupara and just a stone throw distance from the Chief Minister’s bungalow. This shows that the Government has not been able to ensure security of the offices located in such sensitive area, Kim Gangte charged.

Why is the Government not able to find out who is behind the killing? she asked.

Kim Gangte also informed that Rajya Sabha MP of the party Kanwar Deep Singh is due to arrive at Imphal on February 1 as a Central observer. During his stay, the MP would also be addressing a public meeting.
