Transporters Call Off Strike

IMPHAL, Dec 27:All contentious issues regarding increment in transport charges for transporters engaged in transporting petroleum products to Manipur have been resolved at a meeting held on December 24 at Classic Hotel between IOC officials headed by NEISO General Manager A Pandian and petroleum pro-duct transport contractors.

However, the transporters’ demand of Rs 5000 per trip announced by the Government of Manipur towards transport incentive would be settled with the transporters on obtaining payment from the State Government within January, conveyed a press release issued by the IOC Limited.

Subsequent upon this understanding, the proposed cease work strike called by the transporters from January 1 has been called off.

Informing that availability of petroleum products in the State would be increased considerably in the coming days, NEISO General Manager A Pandian said that the requirement of petrol in the State is being met and that of HSD has improved considerably.

Supplies of diesel and SK Oil are also expected to be normal in the near future.

In addition, efforts are al-so being made to enhance capacity of the storage tanks as pre-monsoon build up.

With the current road condition of NH 39, the panicky situation caused by limited supply of petroleum products in the State would be a thing of the past, added the press release.
