Text Books Fiasco Takes Ugly Turn With MSF, Takes To Muscle Power, Private Schools Decry Assault, Slur Cast

IMPHAL, Apr 13: All Manipur Recognized Private Schools’ Welfare Association has strongly condemned assault of the elderly secretary general of the body, Khoisnam Japan by volunteers of Manipuri Students’ Federation (MSF) on April 11 over the issue of teaching text books published by outside firms in the private schools.

Clarifying that the Association had only made the temporary arrangement of teaching some text books published by firms outside Manipur as the prescribed text books under Board of Secondary Education, Manipur were not available to the students in time, Association president Doren Khanganba said that with MSF restricting imposition, there would be no further teaching of such text books in private schools.

However, the physical assault of secretary general of the Association Khoisnam Japan by MSF volunteers on April 11 and the threat to abolish the Association will never be taken lightly by the Association, Doren said, while addressing a press conference at Manipur Press Club here today

Doren explained that teaching of text books published outside firms like Mathematics for class I to VIII, Science and Social Science for class VI to VIII in private schools was only a temporary arrangement as the text books prescribed by the State Board were not available even though the academic session have already been started.

He pointed out that teaching of 15 other text books published by outside firms in  addition to the prescribed text books of the State Board is the practiced among private schools in Manipur over the last many years. But MSF has not said anything in this regard.

Questioning why MSF is raising objection only this time, Doren expressed suspicion over a possible unhealthy alliance between the student body and the Board of Secondary Education, Manipur.
