Solution Urged on COTA Cease Work Strike

IMPHAL, Nov 18: Taking serious note of the ongoing cease work strike by the Council of Teachers’ Association, the All Manipur Student Guardians’ Organization has appealed to the Government to work out an amicable solution so that Government school students can resume their study without any further delay.

Speaking to media persons at their Palace Compound office this afternoon, advisor to the organization, N Tomba observed that the teachers‘ strike launched in protest against the Government’s failure to put into action the Memorandum of Understanding on the implementation of the 6th Pay has caused much anxiety to all guardians of Government school students.

As most of the schools will be conducting their annual promotion examinations in March next year, suspension of classes at this juncture would have an adverse impact on the students, Tomba said.

Sleeping over the MoU it signed with the teachers’ body only exposes that the Government has little respect for teachers, he asserted.

Saying that teachers are placed in high pedestal of dignity and respect in development countries as well as in most other states of India, the advisor urged for implementation of the 6th Central Pay as the same pay structure has been already implemented in other States of India.

President of the organization, Rev R Chothe observed that the failure of the Government to implement the MoU it signed with the teachers has done a serious damage to the credibility of the incumbent Government.

On the other hand, suspension of classes by teachers has put career of students in serious jeopardy.

Working president of the organization N Chaoba asserted that the Government’s attitude towards the issue has violated the right to education. He also urged upon the Government to work out solution and ensure uninterrupted education to students.
