RTI Seeks Info On Road Fund

IMPHAL, Feb 22: Evoking relevant provisions under the Right to Information Act, a complaint has been lodged against alleged denial of fund meant for material components amounting to Rs 22 lakhs under MGNREGS in connection with construction of about 4 km long road in Longpi Kachui village of Ukhrul district. Though the fund had been allegedly withdrawn by the Deputy Commissioner and the Sub-Divisional Officer, the same has not been provided to the villagers/job card holders concerned.

Talking to The Sangai Express in this regard, headman of Longpi Kachui village Vaoyang R Shimray informed that work program for construction of the road from Longpi Kachui village to Masahan village under Chingai sub-division of Ukhrul district had been sanctioned under MGNR-EGS in 2008-09.

Construction of the road has been already completed with villagers/job card holders coughing up the required amount for gravelling the road spending Rs 1000 per truck load of gravel. The total amount of fund sanctioned towards material component was Rs 22 lakhs and of the designated 100 days of works, job card holders completed the work in 72 days.

Subsequently, the daily wages at the rate of Rs 81 have been given to the job card holders for 2008-2009 but the remaining wages for 2009-2010 is still pending.

For releasing the fund related to material components of the work, application had been submitted in time. But no response had been received. Accordingly, the villagers of Longpi Kachui village approached the State Information Commission on January 12, 2011. But even after a lapse of 30 days, nothing has happened. In the meantime, the SDO of Chingai sub-division has been transferred to another place, the headman disclosed, while drawing the attention of the authorities concerned to look into the matter.
