Rail Fed Oil Depot, Inland Waterway, State On The Move, Govt Eyes More Land For Depot

IMPHAL, Mar 2: For the construction of the proposed Rail Fed Oil Depot at Malom, which will have a storing capacity for 60 days, an additional 8 acres of land is set to be acquired and the barrack for the security personnel would also be constructed within the complex of the proposed depot as desired by the Indian Oil Corporation (IOC).

According to an official source, the decision to acquire an additional 8 acres of land has been taken after a joint inspection conducted by officials of Consumer Affairs, Food and Public Distribution, IOC and Railways at Malom where the proposed Rail Fed Oil Depot is to come up yesterday.

A piece of land measuring 35.615 acres has already been acquired in connection with construction of the Rail Fed Oil Depot and fencing has been put up.

However, as this would not be enough when the rail service starts, the decision to acquire additional land has been taken, the source explained. Moreover, as requested by IOC to the State Government, discussion for setting up of barracks for the security personnel to be deployed for the protection of the oil depot within the proposed complex has been started.

In fact, before the actual deployment of security for the protection of the oil depot, a section of security forces is to be stationed from 7 am to 4 pm daily, the source added. Director of Consumer Affairs, Food and Public Distribution Department M Yaiskul and Divisional Manager (Co-ordination) of North East Integrated Office, IOC KK Handique were among other officials who were present during the joint inspection. The proposed Rail Fed Oil Depot is being targeted to be completed by next year.
