Over 400 Trucks Stranded On NH-53

IMPHAL, Sep 28: Around 400 goods laden trucks coming to Imphal from Jiribam along National Highway-53 have remained stranded at Kambiron on account of the deplorable conditions of the road.

Among the stranded trucks, some trucks have been stranded there for over one month now.

In order to extricate the stranded trucks, three excavators are being used from the side of Transporters and Drivers Council.

Reporting from Kambiron, our reporter said that the precarious condition of the Imphal-Jiri stretch of National Highway-53 has worsened all the more due to constant movement of goods carriers in this rainy season.

The road stretch between Nungba and Barak have been sunk upto waist deep at many spots and the resultant slush and mud has made it impossible for the goods laden trucks to pass through.

Among the stranded trucks at Kambiron, there are vehicles which have been there for almost two months.

Pressing the service of three excavators, Transporters and Drivers’ Council has been trying to extricate the trucks from the slush. The Council has also used 30 truck-loads of stones to make the road at least serviceable.

Many truckloads of stones that the Council and other social organizations have earlier applied along the road have gone wasted and lost in the mud.
