New Political Party Floated In State

IMPHAL, Feb 22: Along with formally announcing setting up of the State unit of Social Democratic Party of India (SDPI), as National political party fighting for the cause of marginalized sections of India, the State unit party president Benjamin M Shah has informed that the party would start launching mass awareness campaigns to mobilize the people of the State starting from March next.

Talking to mediapersons on the sidelines of inaugurating a party office at Kangla building, Lilong Bazar today, Benjamin M Shah informed that SDPI was established under the slogan of ‘Freedom from hunger, Freedom from fear’ following a resolution adopted at the National political conference held at Calicut, Kerala from February 13 to 15 in 2009. Today, the party has spread its wings and ready to make its presence in the elections to 17 State Assemblies and Lok Sabha.

To spread the message of the party to every nook and corner of Manipur as well, the mass campaign is to be launched starting from March 5 with street corner meetings in different parts of the four valley districts namely Imphal East, Imphal West, Thoubal and Bishnupur, Shah informed.

As part of the campaign, a public meeting cum State conference would be held at the Idgah ground of Lilong Haoreibi Mayai Leikai on March 19, he said, adding that the first phase of the campaign would go on for 10 days.

National chairman of the party E Abubakar would come to Manipur to attend the proposed public meeting cum State conference on March 19, he informed, while seeking the support of the people to the campaign of the party.

Shah asserted that even after  60 years of independence, the Government at the Centre as well as other mainstream political parties have not been able to address the grave challenges raised by starvation, illiteracy, unemployment, homelessness, etc that are obstacles on the path to progress.

The Govt of India too has not done anything in connection with the agitation being launched by Irom Sharmila for over 10 years now demanding repeal of AFSPA. This shows that the Govt is neither secular nor progressive, he added.
