MSF Ready For Another Round Of Drive

IMPHAL, Apr 7: Manipur Students’ Federation (MSF) has described acceptance by Secretary of Board of Secondary Education, Manipur L Rajmohan that some text books prescribed for class IX have been distributed in the market without the hologram of the Board which has come a day after he vehemently denied yesterday, as unfortunate.

Addressing a press conference in this connection at the occasion of MSF today, president of the student body L Ibomcha charged that such conduct has indicated shady dealings between the Board and the printing presses in publishing the school text books.

Ibomcha informed that a joint meeting of the officials of the Board, representatives of the printing presses engaged for the purpose of printing the text books and student bodies including MSF was held at Bengali High School today to discuss issues related to seizure of text books published under SSA for free distribution from book stores and prescribed text books of Board without its hologram. In the meeting, Rajmohan admitted that some of the text books of class IX have been distributed in the market without the hologram of the Board. The confession has come about just a day after the Board Secretary vehemently denied any text books of Board being distributed without its hologram yesterday. Ibomcha pointed, adding that with regard to sale of text books prescribed under SSA in the bookstores, Rajmohan has clarified that Board has nothing do with SSA anymore. Ibomcha demanded that the Board should collect all the text books which have been released in the market without the hologram by tomorrow.

He also appealed to the owners of the book stores to hand over the text books to the Board if they were found to be without the hologram.

MSF would join hands with other student bodies in launching a drive to find out if any text books were still being sold in the market without the hologram, the student leader announced.

Furthermore, he demanded the authority of SSA to come up with an explanation of the seizure of text books meant for free distribution among the students from the book stores, more particularly, the Oriental Book Depot at Paona Bazar and Sindam Book House at Singjamei Bazar.

Ibomcha directed the owners of these two book stores should come to the head office of MSF within five days to explain from where they got SSA text books.
