MPA Deserters, Claims UNLF

IMPHAL, Mar 26 : The proscribed UNLF has clarified that MPA No 2037 Pvt Yensembam Manimatum alias Hemanta s/o Y Maimu of Keirao Lairembi Leikai and MPA No 2121 Pvt Gurumayum Lamkhaiba alias Gopal s/o late G Mangi of Kwakeithel Thokchom Leikai were deserters who ran away from an MPA unit on February 9.

Manimatum and Lamkhaiba were among the UG cadres who laid down arms before the IG AR (S) and the State DGP on March 24.

However, they did not take away any weapon when they deserted their unit, said a press release issued by the outfit’s senior publicity officer Ksh Yoiheiba.

As for the two pistols reportedly laid down by the duo, it would have been stage-managed by security forces to make the surrender drama complete, it alleged.

Saying that family members of the duo were helping the security forces in their false propaganda which was aimed at tarnishing the image of the UNLF, the outfit stated that it would collect from the two families the exact prices of the two weapons which the deserters reportedly surrendered to security forces.

Yet, the UNLF/MPA always keeps in high regards all those revolutionaries who contributed their mite in the liberation movement but had to retire due to physical conditions and other compelling reasons.

However, all those cadres who surrendered to the alien rule or who failed to come back to the party only to indulge in anti-social activities after they could not bear the strict discipline and hardships of being a revolutionary would be given befitting punishment without fail.

If family members are found involved in such wayward activities of deserters, they would be treated as equally guilty, the outfit warned.
