MP Focuses On Party-Govt Tie

IMPHAL, Apr 11: For successful implementation of the 15 flagship programs launched by the UPA Government as well as other schemes taken up by the State Government, there must be an effective mechanism for coordination between the SPF Government and the Congress party, asserted MP Dr T Meinya.

A district level training program on flagship schemes of the SPF Government was held at GM Hall here today under the aegis of the City District Congress Committee.

Speaking at the training program, Meinya said that Congress workers should take pro-active roles in informing the people, particularly rural people about the development programs and welfare schemes taken up by the UPA Government and the SPF Government.

As neither India nor Manipur can be said to have developed without development in rural areas, the flagship programs were launched at the initiative of the AICC president and the Prime Minister with special attention to rural areas.

To implement these programs successfully, it demands smooth and effective cooperation between the Government and the party, and there should be joint monitoring mechanism, the MP asserted.

The Mahatma Gandhi National Rural Employment Guarantee Scheme (MGNREGS) was launched for economic alleviation of the rural poor.

If the Government cannot provide job to job card holders, they should be given unemployment allowances.

Health and Family Welfare Minister L Jayantakumar stated that the Congress-led Governments at the Centre and the State have taken up special measures to ensure free education to all children.

In addition to the flagship programs taken up by the Government of India, all other programs aimed at national integration were given extra emphasis in rural and hill areas.

A new scheme which guarantees monetary assistance of up to Rs one lakh for major medical treatment has been launched for people living below poverty line, Jayantakumar said while appealing to the people to avail the benefits of the new scheme.

The program was also addressed by MPCC president Gaikhangam, Speaker I Hemochandra, Ministers, MLAs and party leaders.
