Records of burglary and theft committed in the dead of night at Imphal city was a major headache and a challenge to City Police.

It demanded constant vigil as the burglars and thieves committed their criminal acts at any time convenient to them.

OC Tejbir claimed that the arrest of Abdul Salim was a major breakthrough for the police.

Saying that his gang-mates have been identified, the OC listed them as Md Najauddin (35), Md Abdul Nur alias Ithem (29) of Sekmaijin and one Naba of Phoubakchao.

However, the three gang members could not be arrested till date. Talking about the March 29 arrest, Tejbir said that Abdul Salim and his gang were already in the process of breaking open a shop near the temporary market shed when police surrounded the area. The burglars wore olive green jerseys similar to those issued to security forces.  The police succeeded in nabbing Abdul Salim. One bicycle, two crow-bars and some other equipment were seized from the possession of Abdul Salim.  Abdul Salim was involved in burgling ready-made garment stores of Paona Keithel––D Menz, KP Store and Converse, in 2009.
