MLA Rubbishes Police Report On KCP-MTF Claim

IMPHAL, Mar 13: Oinam Assembly Constituency MLA Dr I Ibohalbi has categorically rejected disclosures by two arrested KCP-MTF (Military Task Force) cadres that the armed group had received Rs 13 lakhs from the legislator.

Reacting to a police claim of the KCP-MTF cadres disclosing that the UG group had received the said amount, the MLA dismissed the report as an attempt to malign his political career.

Superintendent of Police of Bishnupur district K Jayanta briefing newspersons about the arrest of the two KCP-MTF cadres at his office yesterday had claimed that the outfit’s army-in-chief Wahengbam Dilip alias Tomba of Toubul and Sarangthem Ongbi Sandhyarani of Hiyangthang Maning Ward No-III revealed of receiving the amount from the MLA. Clarifying on the matter while speaking to newspersons at his Babupara quarter today, Dr Ibohalbi asserted that he had neither contacted any member of the outfit through telephone nor provided the said amount.

Posing as to how could activists of the armed group dare to come to his official quarter where there is deployment of round the clock security; he also observed that the report is aimed at defaming him.

Stating that he had taken the oath to honor the Indian Constitution, the MLA also denied the report that he Sandhyarani came to his quarter to collect Rs 12 lakhs and another sum of Rs 1 lakh on two occasions.

Informing that after his expulsion from the MPP and further prohibition on joining other political organization he had not established contact with any party, the MLA suspected that the issue at hand might be an attempt to assassinate him, politically.
