Meet Decries UG Demand

IMPHAL, Feb 24: Protesting against monetary demand served by various UG groups on the college, a public meeting was held at the premises of Naorem Birahari College, Khundrakpam today.

Organized under the aegis of Students’ Union of the college, the meeting was attended by Pradhan of Khundrakpam Gram Panchayat Khaidem, Modhubala, vice chairman of the Governing Body of the College W Biramani, founder member of the college H Matum, principal of the college Dr Ekasini and vice principal of the college I Kunjabati among others.

At the end of the meeting, three resolutions have been adopted.

In the first resolution, the meeting appealed to the UG group concerned to withdraw the demand in the interest of ensuring normal academic calendar of the college.

In the second resolution, the meeting resolved to issue an urgent appeal thro- ugh media against any monetary demand on the college in the interest of the student.

In the last and third resolution, the meeting decided to form a monitoring committee comprising representatives of local clubs, Meira Paibis, local authorities, college, GB members, staff and students for facing the pre-sent problem in the college.

Earlier addressing the meeting, vice principal of the college I Kunjabati pointed out that the college is being run by the people of Khundrakpam area themselves. So, the college administration has no right to give in to the demands of any organization without the consent of the people.

She disclosed that while one KK Mangang Malemnganba group has demanded Rs 2 lakhs from the college, another KCP Khaba group has served a demand note of Rs 5 lakh. The latter has also threatened the secretary of the college L Ibohanbi and his family over the said monetary demand.

Kunjabati reiterated that she and other staff of the college are just employees and have no right to make any decision on the demands made by different organizations.

Principal of the college Dr Ekasini said that the college is not an aided one nor gets any grant from the Government. So, it has not been able to take up any developmental work property.
