IMPHAL, Feb 28: To give a further boost to the issues raised by Irom Chanu Sharmila who has been fasting for more than 10 years demanding repeal of Armed Forces Special Powers Act, 1958 and to protest the rising corruption in India among others, a protest march is set to be taken out starting from March 23 covering a distance of 2733 kms from Guwahati in Assam to Sabarmati in Gujarat.

The proposed protest march is to be organized by the Guwahati based Purbanchal Youth Front, which is working on issues related to the youth.

The objective of the protest march that would take around 4 months to cover the distance from Guwahati to Sabarmati is to awaken the people, especially the youth to various pressing issues like the over 10 years long fast by Irom Chanu Sharmila demanding repeal of Armed Forces Special Powers Act and rising corruption in India.

The rally would also demand that Indian money ($ 1456 billion) stashed away in Swiss Banks be brought back, eliminate corruption at all level, to stop illegal migrants fromĀ  neighboring countries, to bring about improvement in the education system of India so as to ensure proper education to all children and to save public properties being misused since 1947.

Talking to mediapersons in this connection at Manipur Press Club today, president of Purbanchal Youth Front Pankajkumar expressed confidence that such a long march covering a distance of 2733 kms would be able to awaken the people, especially the youth, to all these pressing issues.

He said that we have to change the youth mentality about our country.

Now the world is changing and we do deserve change, not only for rich people but for the common people too.

The rally will kick off along with only 10 participants from Guwahati and they would be joined by other local people and members of civil organizations of the areas as they pass through till Sabarmati, Pankajkumar informed, while appealing to all the people to extend their full support and co-operation to the proposed protest march, which is aimed at awakening the youth
