Many More Confirm For North-East Fest

IMPHAL, Dec 27: The forthcoming North East Youth Festival is getting more at-traction after groups like the Soulmate of Shillong, Cleave Manipur, Friends Band and many others gear up to perform in the event at Senapati which kick starts from January 17 evening and concludes on January 19.

Another attractive feature of the program is the pork-eating competition, the rice-beer (local brew) drinking competition and the giant-chilli eating competition. According to organizer Dominic Chawang, each winner of the three competitions will be awarded a cash prize of Rs 10, 000 (ten thousand).

Meanwhile, it is worth noting that Soulmate of Shillong is a reputed band that had already toured Europe and the United States of America. According to reports, the Soulmate will perform at the White House in Washington after the Senapati event.

It can also be noted that the festival will feature Guru Rewben Mashangva, Lou Majaw and other well known artistes of the North East region.

‘North East Youth Festival is to promote the rich cultural heritage of the North East communities,’ said Dominic Chawang, convener of the mega event.

The festival seeks to tame the frustration amongst the youths of the region. A concept paper on the festival said ‘in the midst of all kinds of turmoil and insecurities, the event is an endeavor to highlight ‘˜a ray of hope.’

There will be a beauty pageant, ‘Queen of the Mystic East’ which carries a cash prize of Rs 1.20 lakhs while the winner of the cultural dance will be given Rs 1 lakh. Organizers say every cultural troupe participating in the North East Youth Festival will be given consolation prize of Rs 10,000 (ten thousand each) but the teams need to be through in the screening. Meanwhile, Guru Rewben Mashangva has composed the theme song of the North East Festival, ‘Brothers of the East.’ According to the organizing committee, further information can be had at cell phone numbers 9436293104 and 9612314354.
