Manipuri Boy Attacked, Hurt In NCR

NEW DELHI, Feb 14: A 20-year old boy from Manipur, working as sales assistant at Pantaloon, Sahara Mall in Gurgaon, Haryana, was attacked by three unknown persons last night. He suffered a fracture on the right hand and injury on chest.  Company says no there is no cab service for male night shift workers.

According to information reaching North East Support Centre & Helpline, Pantaloon, where the victim James (name changed) works had special sales, which ended yesterday.

James left office at around 1.30 AM and while he was waiting for public transportation at the nearby Sahara Mall to return home, three unidentified men came in a white Maruti Van and adducted him.

“I was taken to some place opposite to Ambience Mall and mercilessly beaten without any reason. My right hand has been fractured and chest and back are badly injured. They detained me whole night and freed me at daybreak,” James told North East Support Centre & Helpline.

James carried cash and ATM card in his purse. But there was no attempt to loot him.

“I do not have any problem or quarrel with anyone. I do not understand what their intention of attacking me was,” James added.

To address the problems being faced by North East Indian communities, particularly sexual violence against women, the Delhi police have taken up some policies and plan of action. But they need to be monitored on regular basis.

Spokesperson of North East Support Centre and Helpline Madhu Chandra has stated, “The issue of racial attack and discrimination against North East Indian communities in Gurgaon time and gain has not yet been addressed by Gurgaon Police despite many requests made to Commissioner Police of Gurgaon.”

Racial attack on North East people and easy targeting North East women for sexual advances are still grim concerned in Delhi and Gurgaon.  “We will appeal to Gurgaon Police Commissioner to prevent the prevailing racial attack on North East communities,” Madhu Chandra said.

Shop Manager of Pantaloon said that no cab service is provided to men working during night shift.  “It is of great concern that there is no cab service for men working night shift. We will approach Delhi and NCR Police to include this in their 9 points safety guideline for women working in BPO companies,” Madhu Chandra added.  North East Support Centre & Helpline ( is a joint initiative of various human rights activists, social workers, students, journalists and lawyers seeking to prevent harassment and abuses meted out to North East People and tribal communities of other States.
