Manipur Minister’s Son Held For Boy’s Murder

IMPHAL, Mar 22: Five young men, including the son of Manipur sports minister N Biren Singh, were arrested on Monday, a day after cops began a hunt for them in connection with the murder of a student in Imphal West district.

Irom Roger (21), a standard XII student studying in Bangalore, was driving a car near Imphal airport on Sunday when unidentified persons in a jeep overtook Roger and shot him. He died on the way to hospital.

According to police, the sports minister’s son, Nongthombam Ajay Meetei (27), and four others surrendered to police on Sunday. A pistol with six bullets and the jeep were seized. Cops gave no motive for the crime.

The arrests came after residents locals formed a joint action committee to protest against the killing and submitted a memorandum to chief minister Okram Ibobi Singh.

Senior opposition MLA O Joy (Manipur People’s Party) raised the issue in the assembly during zero hour on Monday demanding a proper investigation into the incident.

    Nongthombam … whatever he will walk away after all he is a son of a …, this is true belief me. What the politicians thinks is people will forget after sometime and will leave nothing in there mind. And did the same may be in another form. Manipur becomes a land of gangsters. Before we see in cinemas and dramas now we see it for real, may be they are imitating ha ha.

    It’s a shame in the part of Manipur Legal System that justice has never been given in time…
    and this time too i have a strong intuition that the killer will walk away free…after all He is the son of a Minister….Arresting them sounds like just a part of some compulsory drill to calm down the agile social men of Manipur…Politicians are incapable of running the state effectively, rather they have in mind how to earn money and lot of money…
