Lobby Group

IMPHAL, Mar 5: The Government of Manipur has decided to send a group of High Court Bar Association members to Delhi to lobby with the Prime Minister, the Union Home Minister and the Union Law Minister for establishment of a separate High Court for Manipur.

A decision to this effect was adopted during a meeting between the Chief Minister and representatives of the High Court Bar Association yesterday.

Incidentally, the High Court Bar Association has been agitating demanding establishment of a separate High Court for the State.

Speaking to media persons at its office this after- noon, High Court Bar Association secretary N Jotendro said that there is no question of setting up High Court for Tripura before Manipur.

Either Manipur would have its High Court before Tripura or the two States would have their own High Courts at the same time, Jotendro conveyed as assured by the Chief Minister.

Stating that regular correspondence was being made between the State Government and the Union Law Minister about setting up separate High Court for Manipur, the Chief Minister reportedly informed the Bar members that maximum efforts were being put in to complete at least three court rooms and shift the High Court to the Chingmeirong Court complex by April this year.

The meeting also agreed on sending a team of the Association to New Delhi to lobby with the Prime Minister, and other Central Ministers for setting up a separate High Court for Manipur without any further delay.

Moreover, the Association dispatched a memorandum to the PM yesterday urging for a separate High Court, Jotendra said.

As for the ongoing agitation, a general body meeting of the association would be convened on Monday to decide whether or not the agitation should continue or suspended in view of the recent developments.
