Lamlai Cops Reach Out To Public

IMPHAL, May 26: To enhance understanding and co-operation, a police-public interaction program was held at Kharasom under Imphal East district today.

During the program, SDPO Lamlai N Meghachandra Singh and OC of Lamlai Police Station K Dhananjoy Singh interacted with the villagers on wide ranging issues apart from answering questions raised from the side of the villagers.

In the interaction program held at Chingkhei Ningthou Thambal Lairembi ground of the village, SDPO Meghachandra explained that police may have nothing to do or say with regard to developmental works of the Government. But police are there to prevent crime and ensure security to the people.

However, presence of rogue policemen may not be ruled out. So, the public should report it if they come across any police personnel trying to harass them without any valid reason and should not hesitate from approaching the police station to lodge complaint, the police officer encouraged the villagers.

Encouraging the students studying in the lone primary school of the village to study hard, N Meghachandra also distributed exercise books to the students.

OC of Lamlai Police Dhananjoy observed that the fact that people in Kharasom village, which is located just around 7 kms from Imphal, are peace loving people has been shown from non-receipt of any complaint to the police station in the last two years.

According to the villagers, although there has been no serious incident of crimes in Kharasom, abuse of intoxicants, more particularly liquor and gambling has been on the rise among the youngsters of late.

Inhabited by around 600 people, Kharasom continues to remain backward in various areas.
