IMPHAL, Feb 11: Decrying the alleged non-implementation of a Gauhati High Court by the State Government and defiance of a Court order by Leibi villagers, the Kwatha Village Authority has decided to impose an indefinite bandh along Imphal-Moreh section of NH-39 with effect from February 17 midnight.
According to the Kwatha Village Authority, the Gauhati High Court issued a ruling on November 10 last year to demarcate the boundary line between Leibi and Kwatha village.
Accordingly, Government officials including OC/SDPO of Moreh police and members of Kwatha Village Authority went to demarcate the disputed boundary line between the two villages but the people of Leibi village assaulted members of Kwatha Village Authority and aborted the demarcation exercise.
For the second time, the Gauhati High Court issued another demarcation order yesterday but the State Government has postponed the demarcation exercise till March 9.
Decrying the Government’s casual attitude of treating the matter and putting off the demarcation exercise, the Kwatha Village Authority appealed to the Government to demarcate the disputed boundary lines before the ugly incidents broke out between Leibi village and Kwatha village.
Even as the Gauhati High Court issued an order barring people of both Leibi and Kwatha villages from entering the disputed area since last year followed by imposition of Section 144 of CrPC in the area, the people of Leibi village has been openly defying the Court order as well as the restrictions imposed under Section 144 of CrPC.
Urging the Government to open a security post in the disputed area, the village authority appealed to all civil organizations and NGOs to support the proposed highway bandh.
