IMPHAL, Jan 16: Following an agreement with the Government on some points, the JAC formed in the backdrop of the assassination of the Chairman of the Board of Secondary Education Manipur, Chairman Naorem Kunjabihari has decided to call off its protest movement.

Decision to withdraw the agitation, during which at least two vehicles were burnt by suspected bandh supporters, was taken after a JAC delegation met the Chief Minister at the CM Secretariat this morning.

It is said that both sides agreed on handing over the task of investigating the killing of the Chairman inside his office room to the CBI, in case the police cannot track down the assailant(s) who gunned down Dr Kunjabihari at the earliest.

As the Government also conceded to the JAC’s demand for unconditional release of all the individuals arrested by police on the charge of indulging in violence during the bandh period, the agitating JAC also resolved to end the protest movement with immediate effect.

Consequently the body of the slain Chairman was claimed by his family for the last rites today.

The body has been lying at RIMS morgue since January 11, after the Government allegedly failed to live up to the demands of the JAC

Sixty years old Dr Kunjabihari was found shot dead inside his office chamber located in the high security zone Babupara on January 11 afternoon.
