IOC Opens Guwahati Office To State Transporters

IMPHAL, Nov 28: With a view to enhance volume of transportation of essential commodities towards Imphal on both NH-39 and NH 53 and also to reduce UG threats/interventions, FCI contractors of the State may obtain and submit transport contract documents at Guwahati.

Union Cabinet Secretary KM Chandrasekhar convened a meeting with officials of Northeastern States on Public Distribution System in the region, yesterday. The meeting, agreed to allow State transporters to ferry fuel oils on NH 53 too, in addition to NH 39, informed an official source.

The meeting which was also attended by the Ministry of Petroleum and Natural Gas Secretary further decided to start putting up boundary walls around the site identified for construction of a rail fed oil depot at Malom.

Notably, the State Government has been demanding enlargement of the existing oil depot so that it can stock 90 days’ requirement of both petrol and diesel. The existing oil depot can stock petrol for only 17 days and diesel for 24 days.

Taking into account difficulties being encountered by transport contractors, particularly FCI transporters in obtaining and submitting contract documents at Dimapur, State contractors would be allowed to obtain and submit relevant documents at the FCI regional office of Guwahati.

This was agreed to during the meeting presided by Union Cabinet Secretary Chandrasekhar. The meeting also discussed about persuading Director General (BRO) to approve estimate of Rs 10 crores for maintenance of NH 53.

It further decided to ask BRO to pay special attention to NH 53 and expedite its development.

BRO should give priority to the worst dilapidated section of 4 Kms between Barak and Nungba, the meeting agreed. The meeting was also attended by the Chief Secretary, Principal Secretary (Works) and officials of Transport Department and CAF&PD.
