Health Minister Mulls AYUSH Hospital

IMPHAL, May 15: Health Minister L Jayantakumar has assured to set up a 50-bedded AYUSH hospital at Lamphelpat. The assurance was made during a visit to the 20-bedded AYUSH and Homeopathy wing at JNIMS complex today.

Informing that the hospital will have modern equipment, the Minister said site for the said hospital has been already identified and reserved.

Prior to his visit to JNIMS complex, L Jayantakumar inspected the patchouli plantations at nursery centers of Kyamgei Loukol and Okram Chuthek.

Patchouli nurseries are being prepared at these two centers with an objective to encourage wide spread plantation of the medicinal plant in the State and initiated by North East Financial Development Institute (NEDFI) in association with multi-National companies.

Manipur State Medicinal Plants Board is the facilitator of the ambitious project.

He said a training program on widespread patchouli plantation would be organized from May 31 to June 2 during which 2000 patchouli sapling would be distributed. Plantation of the aromatic plant would be done along with mulberry plantations at fields already identified under Seri project.

A team comprising of Medicinal Plants Board Member Secretary and State AYUSH Officer Dr A Guneshwar Sharma, officials of Sericulture Department, Horticulture and Soil Conservation Department, North East Institute of Science and Technology and representatives of NGOs yesterday visited the mulberry farms at Andro, Keibi, Leikinthabi and Achanbigei etc in the regard.

It may be mentioned that a team of NEDFI officials deliberated with State authorities on patchouli plantation in the State during their visit on April 22.

NEDFI agreed to provide nurseries and assured to assist in marketing.
