Govt Bans Sale And Distribution Of 2 Drugs

IMPHAL, May 17: As in other parts of the country, Medical Directorate, Government of Manipur has announced a total ban on sale, manufacture and distribution of two drugs with immediate effect in public interest as the use of these drugs is likely to entail certain risks to human beings.

Quoting the reference of Central Drugs Standard Control Organization (CDSCO), East Zone, Government of India, a statement issued by Drugs Licensing & Controlling Authority, Director of Health Services, Government of Manipur, S Ibomcha Singh has informed that sale, manufacture and distribution of  Gatifloxacin (formulation for systemic use in human by any route including oral and injectable) and  Tegaserod ( and its formulation for human use) have been totally prohibited throughout  India with immediate effect in the interest of the public as the use of these drugs was likely to entail certain risks to human beings.

In another statement, the Director has also declared 10 other drugs as ‘spurious and not of standard quality’.

The drugs are Gabaster-M (batch no. BLU0910, manufactured by M/s Atoz Lifesciences, Pondichery), Azarel 500 (batch no. T-1626, manufactured by M/s Ramlal Labs Pvt Ltd, Kolkata), Optineuron Tab (batch no. DG01001, manufactured by M/s Lupin Ltd, Aurangabad), Vizylac Capsules (Batch no. DVC10069, manufactured by M/s Kalindi Medicure, Dehradun), Diriphyllin Injection (batch no. AIK1050, manufactured by Cadila Healthcare, Ahmedabad), Sterile water for injection IP (batch no. 2014, manufactured by M/s Hindustan Pharmaceuticals, Barauni), La-Red-DSR (batch no. 1004043, manufactured by M/s Bloworth Pharmacies, Dist Una-Himachal Pradesh), Metronidazole Benzoate oral Suspension IP (batch no. MBS.1007, manufactured by M/s La Chemico Pvt Ltd, North 24 Parganas, West Bengal), Oxytocin Injection IP (batch no. 378, manufactured by M/s Hindustan Pharmaceuticals, Barauni) and Oxytocin Injection BP 2 ml  for Veterinary use (batch no. 130, manufactured by M/s Simplex Pharmaceuticals, Patna, Bihar).
