Former UCM Prez Backs Sovereignty Aspiration

IMPHAL, Mar 30: To live independently is the aspiration of every citizens of the world, asserted former United Committee Manipur president advocate K Lanngamba.

Addressing the gathering at a public meeting organized by numerous organizations at Wangjing in Thoubal district today as a resource person, Lanngamba asserted that apart from living independently being the cherished dream of every citizen a sovereign nation also reflects the true identity of a society.

Noting that it is the common people who are facing extreme hardships as a consequence of armed conflicts over the issue of regaining lost independence, he said the common public have not only the right to intervene and bring the conflict to an amicable solution but also has to shoulder the responsibility for an honorable solution to the issue.

Asserting that there is hardly any need for going back to history to ascertain that Manipur was once an independent nation, Lanngamba observed that as protracted armed combat is unlikely to bring the desired result outlook of Indian political leaders need to change.

He suggested that leaders of political organizations accord importance to proposals from various section of Manipur for plebiscite by taking up the issue in the Indian Parliament.

The public meeting, which is an ongoing event under the objective of solving the ‘Indo-Manipur conflict with the participation of the people’, was also attended by a large number of student and women activists.

Among others, UPF general secretary O Bikramjit, Wangjing Lamding Apunba Nupi Samaj president Ningthoujam Lalita, apunba Loumee Lup ( Thoubal district) president W Kunjabihari and CADA (Wangjing Wangkhei) unit vice president Ng Nganbi also participated at the meeting which adopted various resolutions including holding plebiscite to enable the people of Manipur decide their own future.
