Electoral Roll Trimmed

IMPHAL, Jan 8:  A total of 34,092 voters whose names were entered or present in the electoral list have been deleted from the electoral roll published by the Chief Electoral Officer, Manipur on January 5.

These voters are either underage or invalid people or whose names are registered in the electoral rolls of more than one polling booth.

With the deletion of these voters, the total number of voters has gone down as compared to last year.

According to an official source, the electoral roll was published on January 5 with due permission of the Election Commission.

As per the latest electoral roll, the total number of voters is 16, 93,147 as against 17, 27,239 voters recorded ahead of the Parliamentary elections held in 2009.

The faulty list of voters was removed from the electoral roll after a house to house revision conducted by booth level officers under supervision of the Chief Electoral Officer. The electoral roll published in January includes list of 13,010 youth in the age group of 18-19 years who were newly registered.

On the other hand, capturing and attachment of photographs of electors to the photo electoral roll have been completed by 91.27 per cent.

Incidentally, there were reports of registration of voters in the photo electoral roll from two or more different places in the hill districts.
