Divided RJD

IMPHAL, Jan 21: Even though the next round of general elections may be held in the early part of next year or even the latter part of this year, cracks within the State unit RJD have widened gradually following the expulsion of three party leaders including the vice president (Hill) by the president in-charge of the party.

According to sources within the party, vice president (Hill) Limjalet Haokip, general secretary MH Yaiphaba and secretary (Hill) in-charge T Nenei have nominated seven office bearers without the knowledge of party president Yamkhomang Haokip and vice president Prof N Kumarjit.

On alleged charge of giving appointment to these nominated office bearers Limjalet, Yaiphaba and Nenei have been expelled from the party. The expulsion has led to the present crisis within the party.

Coming out with their side of the story during a press conference at the party office here today, the expelled Limjalet, Yaiphaba and Nenei asserted that they have nominated seven office bearers with an eye on strengthening the party organization and the nomination papers were forwarded to State unit president Yamkhomang Haokip, who is Delhi, by the vice president (hill) for seeking approval.

They further asserted that it was only nomination and not appointment as falsely charged against them by president in-charge Prof K Kumarjit to affect the expulsion by issuing an order. So, the order of expulsion over some cooked up charges is not acceptable.

Countering the charges, they said that Yamkhomang Haokip has not been attending the office till date since assuming the post of president while president in-charge K Kumarjit is one such person who has not only been irregular in his attendance at the office but also taking the official documents of the office back home.

They contended that if at all an expulsion is to be effected, it should be in conformity with the rules and regulations of the party and prior show cause notices should be served.

They also leveled strong charges against the president in charge of collecting lakhs of rupees from the two party MLAs in connection with their suspension from the party.

On the party hand, president in-charge K Kumarjit has contended that Limjalet Haokip, MH Yaiphaba and T Nenei have been expelled from the party for nominating seven office bearers and convening unauthorized meetings without his knowledge or that of the party president.

He asserted that in political term, the word ‘˜nominate’ has various connotation.

He also refuted the charges of collecting money from the two MLAs as baseless.
