Delhi Trader Helped Us Uncover NSCN Gun-Running: NIA

NEW DELHI, April 02: A WEST Delhi trader helped the National Investigation Agency (NIA) track the contacts of NSCN (IM) to a Thailand-based shipping agency. The Naga insurgent outfit was taking the help of shipping agent Kittichai Rimkeeratikul to transport consignment of arms and ammunition from China to Bangladesh from where these arms were to be brought to NSCN training camps.

The NIA filed a 650-page chargesheet against NSCN (IM) chief arms procurer Anthony Shimray and three others recently and recorded the trader’s statement.

According to NIA, the Delhi trader was in touch with the Bangkok-based shipping agent on his e-mail id kittichai16@yahoo.com. The trader, in his statement, told the agency that he had contacted the shipping agent for cargo vessels several times but had not been able to complete a business transaction. He provided the agency the contact details. This helped NIA to obtain the records of the e-mail id from the service provider.

“As per the relevant e-mails, the arms was to be transported by a 1×20 feet shipper own container (SOC) and the loading port would be Beihei (South China), Qingdao or Shanghai,” the chargesheet stated.

“The unloading port would be Cox Bazaar in Bangladesh. The businessman had also proved the identity of Kittichai as a shipping agent who arranged a cargo vessel on commission basis,” the chargesheet stated.

A sum of $20,000 was being paid by NSCN (IM) for transportation while the value of arms and ammunition was fixed at $100,000. According to NIA, the delivery of the consignment was deferred as Shimray discovered that conditions in Bangladesh were not in favor of NSCN (IM).

Investigations have also established that NSCN (IM) still has camps in Bangladesh — Goshen, Bethel and Zion, three outposts and one office in Chittagong. These camps are being used for ground preparation, storage and transportation of arms and ammunition.
