CM Urges Religious Institutions

IMPHAL, May 2: Chief Minister O Ibobi appealed the spiritual and religious institutions of the State to cooperate the Government in bringing unity in the State.

The Chief Minister was speaking in a function organized to mark the arrival of relic of St Don Bosco School, Chingmeirong yesterday.

Ibobi remarked that the arrival of the relic is a rare honor for the State.

He observed that the event would be the most cherished moments for all.

The Chief Minister said that Manipur is very fortunate to have some of the best schools of Don Bosco Society and stated that some of the best brains and personalities have been produced by these schools.

Ibobi stated that quality education with spiritual and humanitarian values has been the guiding principle of Don Bosco and the contribution of Don Bosco schools and colleges is acknowledged by all.

He also appreciated the great noble deeds of Salesian society particularly in education sector.

The Chief Minister said that history of Christianity is more than 100 years old in Manipur. It has brought not only a new faith but also modern values in Manipur.

He lauded the role of Christian missionaries in various welfare activities especially their outstanding performance in education field.

He said that five out of nine districts of Manipur have majority tribal population of Christian brothers and sisters who have been living with the rest of the people from time immemorial and added that peaceful co-existence of all communities and religions have been the hallmark of Manipuri culture and ethos.

Rajya Sabha MP Rishang Keishing also spoke at the occasion.

The function was attended by hundreds of people especially from Christian community and students of Catholic schools.
