CM Inspects NIT, Students’ Petition

IMPHAL, Mar 4: Chief Minister O Ibobi today conducted a field inspection of the NIT located at Takyelpat. The Chief Minister made a direct assessment of the progress in the ongoing construction works of girls’ hostel, boys’ hostel and class rooms as well as the condition of the roads inside the NIT campus.

Later, the Chief Minister instructed the officials concerned to finish all construction works ahead of this year’s academic session scheduled to commence from July.

The Government took up the repairing and development work of the existing campus as it would take some more time to construct a new building exclusively for the NIT.

Ibobi stated that a new building for NIT should be constructed by the Centre and it may take 4/5 years.

He said that the existing building would be developed so that students can study here up to third year.

After consulting with relevant officials about the shortages and requirements of the NIT, the Chief Minister directed the officials to submit a written list of the requirements to the Government.

The Chief Minister also interacted with students for a brief period.

Grabbing the opportunity, the students demanded a separate laboratory for them. They also asked for potable water, physical instructor, doctor, library etc.

To this, Ibobi assured that maximum efforts would be put in to fulfill their demands. He further instructed officials concerned to complete development of the play ground within a week, installation of solar lighting system and arrangement for weekly visit by a doctor. The Chief Minister was accompanied by Works Minister K Ranjit and other Govt officials and engineers.
