IMPHAL, Mar 3: A 28-year old man sustained injuries when the security escort commander of a MLA struck him with the rifle butt on alleged charge of not giving way while being caught in a traffic jam with rows of vehicles of a  marriage party that left no space even for looking sideways.

The victim has been identified as Laishram Henary (28) s/o late Budha of Singjamei Sapam Leikai.

Talking to mediapersons in connection with the incident at Manipur Press Club late evening today, Henary recalled that at around 3.30 pm today, he travelling towards Irilbung in a Maruti Van with his wife sitting beside him for attending a Heijingpot at Khongman Mangil, when they were caught in a traffic jam. There were rows of vehicles of a marriage party blocking the entire road and there was not even enough space for looking sideways.

But the security escort commander of the MLA commanded that the Van should be moved away to give way.

To this, Henary responded that it would not be possible   without the rows of vehicles in front moving ahead first. But the escort commander got down and pulled him up by the neck.

As it was a question of prestige, Henary said, he flung away the hand of the escort commander. But the escort commander not only butted him on the jaw but also dragged his pregnant wife and threatened her. The escort commander also broke the rain guard of the Van, Henary informed.

After getting first aid at RIMS, Henary has reportedly filed a complaint with the Irilbung police station in connection with the incident.
