Multi-media campaign

IMPHAL, May 13: Multi-media campaign highlighting the achievements of SPF Government’s flagship programs got underway at Mayangkhang of Senapati district.

ADC Kangpokpi H Rupachandra, who is also the Executive Director of DRDA Senapati, was the chief guest of the opening function.

Mayangkhang Village Authority Chairman RK Luikang was the president of the function being organized by District Information Office, Senapati.


Tipaimukh work

IMPHAL, May 13: A meeting chaired by Chief Secretary DS Poonia today has discussed issues related to starting construction work on the controversial Tipaimukh Multi-purpose Power Project and Loktak Downstream Project.

According to an official source, among other issues, the meeting held in the evening today discussed security aspects of Loktak Downstream Project, which would have a generating capacity of 66 megawatt power and construction of an approach road.

From the side of the NHPC, which is going to construct the project, proposal for permanent security at the project site had been placed.

With regard to the construction of the approach road connecting the project site and extending upto Tupul and Rengpang, the officials of the Works Department assured that the road would be ready by December this year.

As to the 1500 Mega-Tipaimukh Multi-purpose project, which is to be taken up as a joint venture, the meeting discussed signing of an agreement among all the stake holders at the earliest possible.


Tagore competition

IMPHAL, May 13: To commemorate 150th birth anniversary of Rabindranath Tagore, Lairenkabi Youth Dramatic Union, Kangchup Road will organize recitation and painting competitions in three categories for students of class III to XI standard.

The competitions to be held from May 16 to 20 are being organized by the Union under the sponsorship of TCGS, Ministry of Culture (Govt of India), said a release.

Coaching venue changed

IMPHAL, May 13: Directorate of Employment has informed the concerned that the venue for the coaching of Civil Services aspirants has been changed from the auditorium of Directorate of Economics and Statistics, Lamphelpat to the training hall of Directorate of Agriculture, Sanjenthong.


VDC highlights village woes

IMPHAL, May 13: The Chingai Village Development Committee (VDC) has taken strong exception towards the alleged continued negligence on the part of the State Government to address the various issues and problems being faced by the people of Chingai sub-divisional headquarters of Ukhrul district.

In a statement, chairman of the VDC Ruivah Somingam pointed out that the PHC located at the district headquarters in is in complete disarray. Due to poor road communication and financial problems, people from far flung villages come for treatment or health check up at the PHC. However, beside non-availability of the MO in-charge, the PHC staff have always come up with excuses that there is no medicine in the stock of the PHC, Somingam said, adding that this startling fact came to light when the VDC along with Youth Club made a surprise inspection on May 7. During the inspection, a huge consignment of expired medicine stocks were discovered and learnt that the staff of the PHC have not indented any stock for a long time, the chairman disclosed, while calling upon the authorities concerned for immediate intervention.


Interaction with Meira Paibis

IMPHAL, May 13: An interaction session with Meira Paibis was organized by 27 Assam Rifles at Kakching on May 11. 27 AR Commandant interacted with 137 Meira Paibis of Kakching and neighboring villages. The CO came to know various problems and other social issues being faced by the villagers during the session. He assured them of all help, said an AR press release.


BJP attacks SPF Government

IMPHAL, May 13: The so-called developmental works of the Congress led SPF Government have caused more miseries and inconveniences to the people, president of BJP Manipur unit Sh Shantikumar has alleged.

Addressing a public meeting held in connection with the flag hoisting of Yumlembam Ratikanta, who is going to contest as BJP candidate from ward no. 19 in the elections to Imphal Municipal Council scheduled on May 25, at the candidate’s Wangkhei Yulembam Leikai residence today, Shantikumar asserted that instead any good, the so-called developmental works of the Congress led-Government has caused more problems to the people.

Since the Congress led Government came to power, daily newspapers are filled with reports of killing and violence. The Government should be answerable to all these, he added.

Chairperson of Trinamool Congress, Manipur unit RK Dorendro was the chief guest of the flag hoisting function.
