IMPHAL, Mar 25: Regular contributor to The Sangai Express, Dr Budha Kamei has been awarded the post-doctoral fellowship by the Indian Council of Historical Research, Minis-try of Human Resources Development to work on the proposed thesis/research work titled ‘Traditional Village Administration of The Kabui as compared with those of other Naga and Kuki Tribes.’

Demands for 77 crores passed

IMPHAL, Mar 24: Altogether eight demands of Rs 77 crores were passed by the State Assembly today. The first four demands were Demand No 12 pertaining to municipal administration, housing and urban development amounting to Rs 19,959,69,000; Demand No 15 pertaining to Consumer Affairs, Food and Public Distribution amounting to Rs 14,87,76,000; Demand No 17 pertaining to Agriculture amounting to Rs 129,04,76,600 and Demand No 22 pertaining to PHE amounting to Rs 261,07,58,000.

The other four demands were Demand No 36 pertaining to Minor Irrigation amounting to Rs 77,36,51,000; Demand No 42 pertaining to State Academy and Training amounting to Rs 6,63,21,000; Demand No 47 pertaining to Welfare of Minority and other Backward Classes amounting to Rs 27,14,90,000 and Demand No 48 pertaining to Relief and Disaster Management amounting to Rs 9,71,93,000.

Grenade found

IMPHAL, Mar 25: One hand grenade was found in a pond inside a private residence at Keishampat Jailor Leirak this afternoon.

The residential compound belongs to one Yumnam Shamu. The grenade found at the dried pond has been retrieved by police.

NEDFi office opened at CCpur

Lamka, Mar 25: The North Eastern Development Finance Corporation (NEDFi) has formally inaugurated today its Representative Office (RO) here along with a simple function that was attended by the district authorities and the corporation representatives.

Deputy Commissioner of Churachandpur Jacintha Lazarus, Branch Manager SBI CCpur Thiankholian Guite and Branch Manager NEDFi Imphal Oinam Somorendro Meetei graced opening of the financial institution’s RO at Rural Aid Service (RAS) office complex in Tuibuong as chief guest, guest of honor and functional president.

MI Khan to join politics

IMPHAL, Mar 25: PULF Chairman MI Khan has decided to quit the party and join electoral politics. MI Khan who was detained under NSA at Sajiwa Central Jail was released this afternoon.

45 year old MI Khan alias Md Islamuddin alias Ibrahim Qazi alias Choudhury was accorded a warm reception by his supporters between the jail premises and his home at Keirao Makting Makha Leikai.

Speaking at a reception function held at his residence, MI Khan announced that he would contest in the forthcoming 10th Assembly elections.

He said that he retired from PULF due to certain compelling situations and that he would join electoral politics on account of public pressure.

MI Khan was last arrested by a combined team of Imphal East Police and Karnataka Police from Belgaum, Karnataka on May 23 last year.

Nanao’s family alleges murder

IMPHAL, Mar 25: Alleging that the death of Nanao Devi was not a case of suicide but murder, maternal family of vandalized the house of Nanao’s husband Milan today.

It was reported that Laishram Nanao Devi (22) of Lilong Arapti Thongkhong died after consuming poison yesterday.

She was married to Athokpam Milan of Pechu Lampak last year. They have a two months old child.

Even as it was reported that Nanao died after consuming poison, maternal family members and local people of Arapti Thongkhong have been contending that Nanao was killed by strangulating.

Demanding that the killer(s) be booked, an irate crowd belonging to the maternal family of Nanao vandalized the house of Milan today.   The situation was, however, brought under control by police.

According to Nanao’s elder sister Thasana, bruises were seen on Nanao’s neck indicating that she was strangled to dead. There were signs of bleeding on the nose and ears, Thasana said.

One dies in mishap

IMPHAL, Mar 25: One motorcycle borne IRB man killed and a civilian pillion rider sustained injuries when they were knocked by a truck at Yairpiok Singha this morning.  The fatal mishap occurred at about 10.30 am today. The deceased has been identified as 2nd IRB Rifleman Haobam Anand (37) of Yairipok Khoirom. The injured civilian has been admitted in hospital, said a police source.
