Micro-finance

IMPHAL, Mar 18: A two day workshop on the issues facing the micro-finance sector was held at New Delhi on March 15. The theme of the year’s conference was “Reengineering Microfinance: Need for New Products and Policies.  Shashi Kant Sharma, secretary finance sector, Ministry of Finance, Ms Jayshreee Vyas, chairperson Sa-Dhan, R Subrahmanyam,, Principal Secretary Rural Develop, Govt of Andhra Pradesh. The Conference organized Sa-Dhan and FICCI kicked off against the backdrop of the crisis the microfinance sector is currently facing

Chairman of Vision Manipur K Seityajit and member Ksh Gangarani Devi represented the State.

Office executives

IMPHAL, Mar 18: All Manipur Ethnical Socio-Cultural Organization (AMESCO) appointed its office bearers for the term upto March 18, 2014.

R Benny Chiru, BK Moirangcha, A Rishi Singh and L Ibotombi Meitei been appointed as president, secretary general, finance secretary and information and publicity secretary respectively.

Library inaugurated

IMPHAL, Mar 18: Planning Board Deputy Chairman and MLA Bijoy Koijam inaugurated a newly constructed library building of Young Development Association (YDA), Koirou Mamang Leikai today.

The MLA was the chief guest while YDA President Thokchom Dilipkumar was the president of the simple but solemn function held at Koirou Thongkhong ground.

Up-Adhyaksha of Imphal East Zilla Parishad, Kangujam Rajen, Thongju Gram Panchayat Pradhan Chirom Romeo, former President of Manipur Library Association, K Chaoba Singh and Electricity Department Executive Engineer I Ibochou were also present in the function as guests of honor.

The library building was constructed with the local area development fund of MLA Bijoy Koijam.

Floral tributes were also paid to the three late founder members of YDA in today’s function.

Training program held

IMPHAL, Mar 18: A team of officials of Agriculture Department under the aegis of Within District Exposure visited Dailong village of Tamenglong district on March 16 last, reports our Correspondent.

The team held a district level training at Taningjam village today.

About 40 farmers participated in the training program.

Bible camp

IMPHAL, Mar 18: The 4th Liangmei Youth Bible camp will be held from March 28 to 30 at UBC complex, Tamenglong. Pastor of Cornerstone Baptist Church, Texas, Dr Bobby Herell will be the main speaker of the camp. Quartet, the Gospel Cowboy and Life Pages will entertain the participants with gospel concert.

Association decries

IMPHAL, Mar 18: Kuki Chiefs’ Association, Moreh Block has strongly condemned the initiative of the State and Central Government of implementing Manipur Village Authorities Hill Areas (Amendment) Act 2011 in the hill districts of Manipur.

Maintaining that the Act has abolished the Kuki chieftainship, the association warned that it would launch democratic forms of agitation if the Government tries to forcibly implement the Act.

In a press release, the association asked why the State and Central Government is trying to abolish the chieftainship from Kuki society.

Asking whether Kukis are not the citizens of India the association questioned if the Government has the right to appoint a chief in a Kuki village.
