Free Landhoni, the latest slogan

Imphal, Mar 17: Paona Bazar Women’s Welfare Organization has demanded immediate release of M Landhoni, who has launched a fast unto death agitation in protest against her arrest by NIA while going to meet her husband.

Talking to mediapersons in this connection at Paona Bazar today, secretary of the Organization H Tombi demanded that Landhoni should be released in consideration of her two young children. In case the demand is not met, the Organization would be constrained to take recourse to various intense agitations, Tombi warned.

If Landhoni is not going to be released from the custody of NIA, let her two young children be also taken into custody by NIA, Tombi said, while questioning whether it is a crime for a woman to marry a rebel.

Landhoni is an innocent woman, she knows nothing about armed movement, Tombi added.

K accuses IM of bloodshed

IMPHAL, Mar 17: NSCN/GPRN has accused NSCN-IM of firing a mortar shell and killing many civilians including women and children.

In a statement, spokesperson, president’s office of NSCN/GPRN P Tikhak said that after a brief gun battle at Hashik-Noknu village in eastern Nagaland yesterday, armed cadres of NSCN-IM led by Isak and Muivah mercilessly fired a mortar shell on the villagers killing many civilians including women and children. Of the total 120-130 houses in the village, nearly 80-90 houses have been completely gutted and reduced to ashes. Even the granaries were not spared, Tikhak said, adding that ‘it is unfortunate that the eastern Nagaland which was peaceful still recently is now boiling every minute with mortar shells, grenade launchers and bullets’.

Tikhak further said that the people are so shocked that they just cannot think what to do and what not to and their normal life has been brought to a halt and paralyzed completely. People are undergoing acute trauma with all hell breaking loose on them.

It is sad that after a gap of 23 years, Eastern Nagaland is witnessing such a highly volatile situation and there should be no doubt that IM has made use of the Reconciliation process to re-enter Eastern Nagaland, Tikhak alleged, adding that Isak and Muivah, whose hands are strained with the blood of innocent Nagas will definitely have to pay the price for the crimes they have committed.

UKLF denies, clarifies

IMPHAL, Mar 17: Reacting to the reported arrest of UKLF members by Bishnupur police and 16th Maratha Light Infantry, the UKLF has clarified that the arrested persons were in no connected with the outfit.

There is no person named Thangminlen Lhungdim alias Lenin in the rank and file of UKLF operating in the area, the outfit said in a press release issued by its information and publicity secretary JM Zou.

“These are purportedly the work of anti UKLF outfits that have sponsored new groups to tarnish the image of the UKLF. There is no doubt about new outfits formed and sponsored by certain outfits with the whole purpose of repressing the UKLF’s effort in ushering in progress, beneficial to all communities”, it stated. The UKLF has been abiding by the SoO ground rules not only in principle but in action too, it said while asking the public not to come to quick conclusion on reports that seek to malign the image of the group. The whole episode can be engineered only by factions who are hell bent on thwarting negotiation process of the Khulmi Development Council with the Home Ministry. The outfit further appealed to all UG groups and civil organizations to condemn such degrading acts.
