UG held with arms

IMPHAL, Apr 22: A combined force of Imphal West district police commandos and 43 Assam Rifles have reportedly arrested one cadre of the proscribed KCP-MC (Lamyanba Khuman) group along with arms.

According to police report, the cadre identified as Yumnam Surjit alias Abung (27) s/o late Mani of Motbung Meitei Leikai was arrested during a search operation conducted by the combined team led by Inspector P Sanjoy of Imphal West District Police Commandos following a special tip off at Nungpakthabi area near Khongnangpokpi village under Sekmai police station. One AK Assault Rifles, nine live rounds of ammunition, 12 empty cartridges, one Lethode shell, two empty cartridges of Lethode shell and two extortion notes of KCP-MC Lamyanba group have been recovered from his possession. Prior to conducting the operation, sound of gun firing have been heard in the nearby area and blood stains were noticed, the police report added.


Assembly appoints members to different committees

IMPHAL, Apr 22: According to a notification issued by the Manipur Legislative Assembly Speaker, MLA Okram Joy has been appointed Chairman of the Committee on Government Assurances and Moirangthem Hemanta as Chairman of the Committee on Delegated Legislation.

Likewise, Konthoujam Govindas, the Speaker and the Deputy Speaker have been appointed Chairmen of the Committee of Petition, Rules Committee and Committee of Privileges and Ethics respectively.

Further, the Deputy Speaker has been appointed Chairman of the Library Committee, W Mo- rung Makunga Chairman of the Committee on Welfare of SC and ST, the Speaker as the Chairman of the General Purposes Committee and M Okendra as the Chair man of the Committee on Welfare of Women and Children.


Guv greets

IMPHAL, Apr 22: Governor Gurbachan Jagat has greeted the people of the State on the occasion of Khongjom day.

The Governor said, “On this auspicious occasion of Khongjom Day, let all of us rejuvenate our pledge to preserve and protect the sovereignty of our country and its dignity, standing unitedly and boldly.”

Gurbachan reminded that Manipur came under British rule due to disunity and enmity among Manipuri princes.

He said, “In celebrating the day, we need to remind ourselves that foreign powers tend to intervene in the sovereignty of a country whenever its people are disunited and disorganized.”


MPW interview

IMPHAL, Apr 22: The interview for the engagement of 66 contractual MPW (male) sponsored by the employment exchanges concerned would start on April 25 at the mini conference hall of MACS, RD Wing, Lamphel.

Interview for candidates from Bishnupur, Senapati and Tamenglong would be held on April 25. For candidates of Imphal West, the interview would be on April 26, 27 and 28. For Imphal East, the interview would be held on April 29 and 30 while on May 2 and 3 for candidates of Thoubal district. The reporting time for all the candidates is 9.30 am. Further details of the interview schedule may be held from the notice boards of the Directorate of Health Services, Lamphel, State Malaria Officer, Lamphel and MACS, RD Wing, Lamphel.


Training program

IMPHAL, Apr 22: With an aim to augment production of livestock products through promotion of livestock and poultry farming among the people, Department of Veterinary and Animal Husbandry Services, Manipur conducted a farmers’ training program on piggery and poultry rearing for 50 farmers at Phungreitang, Ukhrul from April 18 to 21.

Closing function was held yesterday with Ukhrul SDC HL Jain as chief guest and Joint Director (Vety) Th Debendra Kumar Singh as functional president.

Certificates of appreciation were also distributed to the participants in the function.


ZSU-BV Gen Secy sacked

JIRIBAM, Apr 22: The Zeliangrong Students’ Union Barak Valley has sacked its general secretary Lungang Kamei from his with immediate effect.

A decision to this effect was adopted in an emergency meeting of the union held today. Indulgence in politics and contract works has been cited for expulsion of the general secretary, reports our correspondent.


Mishap kills one

IMPHAL, Apr 22: A Honda Activa rider died in fatal mishap while the pillion rider survived with injuries.

The mishap involving no other vehicles occurred near Heikakpokpi power station along Sugnu road under Kakching police station this morning at about 11.45.

The deceased has been identified as Paokenchung Kamei (22) of Nungba Bolengdai. He was driver of Telem Bus Service operating along Imphal-Chandel road.

The injured victim has been identified as one Sagolsem Ranbir (23) of Thounaojam Yangdong.  He was admitted to Kakching CHC.
