ZSU thanks

IMPHAL, Apr 19: The All Zeliangrong Students’ Union has conveyed gratitude to the general public, civil organizations and student bodies and all those who contributed in making the 48 hours bandh a success in all Zeliangrong areas of Manipur.

A press release issued by the AZSU claimed that all the alleged false propaganda of 11 AR and security forces to cover up their past misdeeds and high handedness was vindicated by the massive support of the public to the bandh.

It further appealed to the general public for support until and unless their charter of demands is fulfilled, and as and when bandh or agitation is launched in any issue of public interest by this organization.

Contrary to the AR claim that all offices, institutions, vehicles were running as usual, all the offices and institutions remained shut and there was no vehicular movement, it contended.

In order to cover up his high handedness and fear of negative remarks in his service record, Col Chonkar and the 11 AR have reportedly blamed NSCN/GPRN for instigating the 48 hour total bandh, but there was not an iota of truth in his allegation, the student body clarified.

Vehicular movement along National Highway-53 remained crippled for the second consecutive day on account of the 48-hour total bandh called by AZSU (Assam, Manipur, Nagaland) in Zeliangrong areas of Manipur, reports our Jiribam correspondent. However, there is no report of any untoward incident during the course of the bandh so far.

Storm havoc

IMPHAL, Apr 19 : The building of the Chingkai Khunou UJB School at Chingkai Khunou village under Sadar Hills reportedly suffered damages with its tin-roof blown away in the furious storm that lashed most part of Manipur early morning today.

According to the headman of the village Hegin Haokip, the velocity of the storm was so strongly that the entire school building suffered extensive damage.

UG demand decried

IMPHAL, Apr 9: Protesting against the monetary demand of KCP-MC (Nongdrenkhomba/Taibangnganba faction), staff of DRDA Bishnupur today staged a Wakat Meepham in front of their office gate today.

The outfit reportedly served an extortion note last month demanding that a sum of Rs 60 lakhs should be paid from the DRDA office which has only 10 staff.

The extortion note was reportedly served through to one Ningthoujam Jayanta, who is the Assistant Project Officer in the DRDA office.

The protest demonstration was staged decrying such demands which could not be met.

The protestors also appealed to the outfit for withdrawing the demand.

Talking to media, the staff of the DRDA office has explained that their job is only to monitor the developmental tasks being implemented with funding under Zilla Parishads and Gram Panchayats. So, it is unreasonable to ask for such a huge amount from the staff. It may be recalled here that Bishnupur District Police Commandos have recently apprehended three hardcore cadres of the outfit including a woman. Of the arrested trio, two of them were allegedly involved in the abortive attempt made to abduct the Assistant Project Officer of the office sometime earlier.
