Cash rewards for farmers

IMPHAL, Apr 9: The District Agriculture Officer (DAO), Senapati has announced cash incentives of Rs 30,000, Rs 20,000 and Rs 10,000 respectively for the best three farmers of Senapati district who can harvest maximum yield in a season.

Speaking at an awareness program on crop production technology at Tungjoy village yesterday, DAO M Gojendro said that a crop competition for farmers of Senapati district would be held at Tungjoy.

Winners of the district level crop competitions would be given the opportunity to compete in the State level crop competition.

He also talked about the ways and means of employing new cultivation technology so as to increase crop productivity and augment farmers’ income.

KVK Thoubal Program Co-ordinator Dr M Thoithoi addressed the program as a resource person on Integrated Pest Management and Integrated Nutrient Management.

Horticulture Specialist K Devdutta Sharma educated the local farmers on how to increase of yield of cabbage and potato being cultivated at Tungjoy and also on preventive measures against various diseases common in vegetables.

Later, knapsack sprayers, hybrid rice seeds for cultivation under SRI method, maize seeds and seeds of horticultural plants were distributed to the farmers.

Quake damage

IMPHAL, Apr 9: A yet to be inaugurated building constructed as AYUSH Centre inside the complex of a Public Health Centre at Nongpok Keithelmanbi in Andro Assembly Constituency of Imphal East district suffered damaged in the earthquake that was experienced in Manipur sometime back.

The building was reportedly constructed with Manipur Development Society as the work agency.

Along with MLA of Andro A/C, a team of media persons today went to inspect the extent of damage caused to the building.

During the cause of inspection of the tin-roofed RCC building, it came to light that no quality has been maintained in the construction work although a huge quantity of fund had been sanctioned and time taken for the construction work.

Unhappy over the manner of executing the work, MLA Shyamkumar categorically stated that the building seems to have been constructed to endanger the lives of the people even though the Government had provided the fund for public welfare.

The Minister and higher officials concerned should pay immediate attention; he demanded and gave strong instruction for proper construction of the building at the earliest possible.

Clean chit to UKLF

IMPHAL, Apr 9: Giving clean chit to UKLF, chiefs of Y Thingkangphai, LT Phai and K Pheisabi villages have clarified that there is no question of the outfit, a signatory of Suspension of Operation, indulging in criminal activities on the night of April 1 and 3 at Thingkangphai area of Sugnu.

Speaking at Molnoi in Pallel today afternoon, chief of Y Thingkangphai village Hemjalun Haokip, chief of LT Phai village Tongmang Haokip and chief of K Pheisabi village Jilngam Baite clarified that they neither have knowledge as to who submitted the memorandum to the Chief Minister on April 5 which was subsequently published in news- papers alleging criminal activities against UKLF nor had they ever appended their signatures in the said memorandum.

The village chiefs asserted that if at all any crime have been committed by UKLF in Thingkangphai area; they would have discussed the matter and tried to bring about a solution with the outfit.

As no crime had been committed, there were no such talks, the village chief said, while appealing to all concerned to find out who have signed and submitted the memorandum.

Airtel shutdown

IMPHAL, Apr 9 : Following the threats issued by a certain group as published in some local dailies on April 8 to Airtel tower land owners and care-takers, tower service of Airtel company has been shut down from today.

A press release issued by the All Manipur Airtel Workers’ Union said that they would suspend their service until and unless Airtel Company and the particular organization come to an agreement.

BTS tower burnt

IMPHAL, Apr 9: Unidentified miscreants set aflame a BTS tower of the private mobile service provider, Airtel located at Langol under Lamphel Police Station in Imphal West district last night.

The incident occurred at around 8 pm yesterday.

The AC room where PIU machine is normally kept has been destroyed in the fire, beyond redemption.

No harm, however, had been caused to another tower of Aircel, which is located just adjacent to the targeted Airtel tower.

TNL reaffirms

Ukhrul Apr 9: In a statement made available to media signed by the president of Tangkhul Naga Long (TNL) Solomon Ningshen, the organization has once again affirmed the 3rd Naga People’s Convention of July 1st 2010.

The release maintained that it has been reiterated to strictly uphold the declaration of the 3rd Naga People’s Convention in letter and spirit.

Nevertheless, it said the so-called unmandated and unsolicited ADC under the illegitimate election was discarded by the Naga people and that it shall not be allowed to function in the Naga areas under any circumstances. Making the organization’s stance clear the release warned that hereafter if any individuals, society and groups or organization dishonor the declaration of the 3rd Naga People’s Convention and found collaborating with the rejected and illegitimate ADC members it shall be at their own risk.

Shumang Leela award

IMPHAL, Apr 9: The 10th Thokchom Iboyaima Shumang Leela Award carrying a cash prize of Rs 10,000 and shawl would be conferred to L Jugeshwor Singh of Awang Potsangbam. Making the announcement at a media briefing held today at the Palace Compound office of Manipur State Shumang Leela Council, its secretary S Hemanta said the award would be conferred on the occasion of the 10th Shumang Leela Day on April 12 to honor Jugeshwor’s role as a principal in the stage play ‘Rickshaw Kanano’.

The award, donated by Iboyaima’s wife Sanatombi, would be formally conferred to Jugeshwor by the Ambassador of Cuba in India Miguel Angel Ramirez Ramos.

AZSU, ZSUM hail students

IMPHAL, Apr 9: The All Zeliangrong Students’ Union (AZSU-AMN) and the Zeliangrong Students’ Union Manipur have congratulated all the Zeliangrong students who were successful in the 3rd Mathematics competition organized by the union recently for classes VI to X.

In a joint press release, the two student bodies informed that a grand felicitation cum prize distribution function would be organized in honor of the successful students on April 14 at Majorkhul Community Hall, Imphal.

They further exuded that these outstanding students would bring laurels to the society in the days to come.

Rogue cop held

IMPHAL, Apr 9: A senior police Constable involved in opening fire using unauthorized pistol in a crowded area has been pulled by police.

A police source informed that Senior Constable Ningthoujam Ingocha (54) of Uripok Achom Leikai who was posted as commander of a VDF post at Heirangoithong Maibam Leikai has been pulled up by police.

It is reported that Ingo-cha opened fire at a rented house at Uripok Tourangbam Leikai at about 10.30 last night.

He was pulled up in connection with yesterday’s incident.

One unauthorized 9 mm pistol, one live round and spent bullet have been seized from his possession.

It is reported that Constable Ingocha was a man of immoral character besides being a drug abuser.
