Bomb Attacker In Police Grip

IMPHAL, Feb 17: State Police Commandos have apprehended one KCP cadre, who was allegedly involved in the grenade attack at the Singjamei Chongtham Leikai residence Chongtham Ranbir, who is the EE of Division-I, IFCD, from Kohima.

The bomb attack occurred in the afternoon of February 10. In the attack, a Havildar in 7th MR, who was deployed as house-guard, was killed while two other civilians were wounded.

According to information received by the press, Imphal West district police apprehended the KCP cadre identified as Sarangthem Digvijay of Heirangoithong Jaganath Achouba Leirak from Kohima, capital of Nagaland, in the wee hours today.

Following the arrest of Digvijay, other police commandos have managed to apprehend at least six individuals including KCP cadres and sympathizers from different parts of Imphal in the follow up operations. The arrested individuals are Laithangbam Ingocha (46) of Heirangoithong, his wife Sandhyarani, Khamnam Ton alias Lingjel Devi of Naharup, parents of Digvijay and Sarangthem Ongbi Sanatombi Devi of Singjamei Chanam Pukhri Mapal.

It is said that Digvijay is the mastermind while the actual bomb attacks were carried out by Ingocha and Ton. Sandhyarani and parents of Digvijay have been arrested on alleged charge of assisting Digvijay. From Sarangthem Ongbi Sanatombi Devi, the commandos recovered one hand grenade. Though she has no connection with the incident of bomb attack, she has been arrested for allegedly sheltering KCP cadres.
