Bodies Object Housing Surrendered UG Cadres At Leikun

IMPHAL, Nov 23: The Naga Peoples Movement for Human Rights (NPMHR) Chandel has raised strong objection to the State Cabinet decision to shelter surrendered cadres of KCP-MC (Lallumba group) in the complex of 8th Bn MR at Leikun, Chandel.

The alleged arbitrary and divisive policy of the Government on this matter will bring disharmony between people of the valley and tribal people of the State, the NPMHR Chandel said in a press release.

Suggesting that the surrendered cadres of KCP- MC (L) should be rehabilitated at a suitable area somewhere in the valley, it urged the State Government to withdraw its cabinet decision which is against the wish of the people in this type of democratic set-up.

Asserting that the democratic form of agitation taken up by the JAC should be given due respect, the NPMHR demanded an immediate, amicable solution to the current strike.

In another press release, the ATSUM, while expressing strong opposition to the Cabinet decision, said that it would be compelled to join the stir against the Cabinet decision along with student bodies of the district if the Govt does not review its stand at the earliest.

Meanwhile, the Kuki Chiefs’ Association, Chandel district has voiced strong opposition to the State Government’s decision to shelter cadres of KCP-MC Lallumba group at the Leikun (Chandel) camp of 8th Manipur Rifles.

While welcoming all endeavors of the Government to rehabilitate UGs in order to bring restore peace in the State, the Kuki Chiefs’ Association in a release expressed apprehension that presence of KCP cadres would inconvenience the local populace.

Among others the Association cited three reasons for its opposition to the Government move stating that sheltering KCP cadres will be followed by similar steps to house surrendered UG cadres of the valley areas in the hill districts; there would be problem of movement of locals in case KCP- MC (L) cadres are present at Leikun; and that in the event of attacks the public would be at the receiving end.

Pledging support to any movement launched by the JAC on the issue, the association cautioned that the govt will be held responsible in the event of any unwanted incident.
