Bodies Condemn Roger’s Killing

IMPHAL, Mar 30: Different bodies have condemned the killing of Irom Roger of Wangkhei Angom Leikai in an incident in which Minister N Biren’s son N Ajay was involved.

Decrying the incident, Committee on Human Rights (COHR) Manipur expressed serious concern over misuse of power by VIPs/MLAs and their kins and relatives.

In a press release, COHR said that at a time when people in the State are facing the impact of draconian laws like AFSPA, they are again on the receiving end of high handed attitude of powerful people and their relatives.

Remembering past incidents, COHR said that there were incidents of outraging modesty of women, thrashing of people and opening fire like a goon   by VIPs/MLAs and their kins.

Above all, COHR added, involvement of a Cabinet Minister’s son in the death of a youth is unfortunate.

Taking serious note of the incident, United Committee Manipur (UCM) cautioned the State Government that it would not remain silent if such incidents recur in future.

The social body said, UCM is still waiting for the punishment to the involved persons.

Maintaining that misuse of power by VIPs and their kins in not new, UCM warned that it must be stopped at once.

Condemning the incident, DM College of Commerce Students’ Union demanded for stepping down of Minister N Biren and Chief Minister O Ibobi on moral ground.

The union also pressed for awarding befitting punishment to the involved persons.

The union in a press release said that arms licenses issued to immature youths must be revoked immediately to avoid such incidents.
