IMPHAL, Jan 22: In protest against sky-rocketing price of essential commodities including consumable items, BJP Mahila Morcha Manipur today organized a rally in Imphal city.

Raising the demand to stop price rise, reduce price of petrol and control price of essential commodities by the Government, the protest rally started from the office complex of BJP State unit located at Keishampat Nityaipat Chuthek from around 1 pm and covered Paona Bazar and Waheng Leikai before returning to the office complex.

As the rallyists were half way along Paona Bazar line, police tried to stop them on alleged charge of not having the required permission. But the protestors prepared to court arrest themselves if they were not to be allowed. Consequently, the police could not do anything. Instead arrest, the protestors went ahead with their rally.

Talking to media persons in connection with today’s protest rally, president of BJP State unit Shantikumar Sharma pointed out that price rise is an all India problem today and the Congress led UPA Govt at the Centre has not been able to control the price. So, starting from district level, National Democratic Alliance has been launching a movement against price rise all over the country and would continue till February 22.

As part of this movement, BJP, BJP Mahila Morcha, Minority Morcha and Janata Dal (United) would also launch various agitations against price rise and corruption, he informed.

National vice president of BJP Mahila Morcha Adhikarimayum Sharda Devi asserted that public has been subjected to the problem of price rise since UPA assumed power at the Centre.

The investigation into the root cause of the problem by a team constituted at the National level has come up with the revelation that it is mainly due to hoarding of goods in the godowns by the Govt, she said, adding that UPA Government has not been able to ensure availability of the goods being hoarded in the godowns to the people in time and thus is failing in implementation of its programs and policies on distribution of goods to the people.

She further asserted that Public Distribution System in BJP-ruled States like Gujarat and Madhya Pradesh are being functioned properly along with providing one kilogram of rice to AAY card holder families at Rs 3.

The benefits to card holders of BPL, APL, etc are also being provided. But contrary to this, the Congress led SPF Government in Manipur has not been able to extend such benefits to the card holders of AAY, BPL, APL, etc.

The president in-charge of BJP Mahila Morcha Manipur Keisham Mema observed that price of essential commodities in Manipur is being controlled by businessmen and not by the Government.
