AMUCO Calls For United Manipur

IMPHAL, Jan 8: All Manipur United Clubs’ Organization (AMUCO) has called upon the people of Manipur to strive collectively for a united, peaceful and prosperous Manipur by defeating those elements scheming to disintegrate Manipur.

Highlighting the historical significance of January 9, 1934, a press release issued by AMUCO publicity secretary NC Modhuchandra recalled that it was on this day that Kabow Valley was transferred from Manipur to Myanmar (then Burma).

With the transfer of Kabow Valley to Myanmar, Manipur people settled in the valley were made citizens of the neighboring country. After this, they were separated from their own country and people.

On the other hand, the Manipuri people have been living inside a much diminished territory after Kabow Valley was gifted away.

After the Seven Years’ Devastation of 1819-1826, people of Manipur of both the hills and valley fought bravely against the Burmese invaders under the leadership of Meidingu Nongdrenkhomba (Gambhir Singh) and succeeded in driving out the Burmese.

But today, some sections of people who have little idea about state formation process and how a civilization developed have been pursuing an unrealistic dream of breaking up Manipur which had withstood challenges throughout history. The people have been propagating all kinds of falsities and misinterpreting history, it added.

Stating that Manipuri people are still suffering from the pangs of separation caused by transfer of Kabow Valley, AMUCO appealed to all to see history through right perspectives in order to find a better future collectively.
