4th Meeting Of Court Of MU Convened

IMPHAL, Apr 18: The 4th meeting of the Court of Manipur University was held at the Court Hall of the University today. Acting Vice-Chancellor Prof HNK Sarma was in the Chair as Prof PN Srivastava, Chancellor of the University conveyed his inability to attend the meeting due to ill health.

In his welcome address, Prof HNK Sarma said that all the six schools of studies have been performing exceedingly well including the Centers for Manipur Studies, Myanmar Studies, Study of Social Inclusive and Exclusive Policy, Human Rights & Duties Education Women’s Studies, Academic Staff College and Educational Multi-Media Research Centre.

The Departments of Manipuri, Chemistry and Physics have been receiving grants under the Special Assistance Program of the UGC and the Department of Life Sciences has been recognized by the UGC as a Centre of Advanced Studies in Life Sciences, he said, apart from giving funds for PG Diploma in the Departments of Physics, Earth Science, Biochemistry etc.

Prof Sarma said that the University received Rs 23.83 crores during 2008-09 as block grants from the UGC and generated a reserve of Rs 3.22 crores.

The estimated block grants required from the UGC is Rs 45.13 crores for 2009-10 and Rs 35.67 crores for Rs 2010-1 I, he added.

The Vice-Chancellor expressed thanks to the President of India and Visitor, Manipur University, Governor of Manipur and Chief Rector, Manipur University Chancellor Prof PN Srivastava, Government of India, Government of Manipur, University Grants Commission and other agencies.

The meeting discussed and passed the proceedings of 3rd meeting of the court held on April 22, 2010 and the proceedings of the Executive Council held between May 2010 and March 20 I 1.

Prof G Jitendra Sharma, Dean, School of Life Sciences presented the proceedings of Executive Council.

Prof S Sanatombi Singha, Dean School of Humanities presented the Annual Report for the year 2009-10 and discussed elaborately.

Other agenda items of the meeting discussed and confirmed were Annual Account for the year 2009-10 and the Annual Report for the year 2008-09.

Prof Amar Yumnam, Dean, School of Social Sciences presented the reports.

The budget estimate for the year 2011-12 and revised estimates 2010-11 were also confirmed after discussion in the meeting.

Prof W Nabakumar Singh, Dean, School of Human and Environmental Sciences presented the reports.

The gathering of the meeting observed one-minute silence on the demise of Prof Shyamacharan Singh, Prof Th Bhagirath Singh, Prof Ch Manihar Singh, (Retd), Md Rashid Khan (SO), other employees N Kunjo Singh, S Sunil Singh, M Mocha Meitei and W Nimai Singh.
