June 17

resign.
(2): Manipur clubs pledge to support the movement of AMUCO, AMSU, etc.
(3): MSF vows to banish BJP and MSCP from Manipur if Truce remains.
(4): Arunachal Pradesh CM says Naga Truce Extension will not be honored.
(5): Police resorts to lathicharge, tear gas shells and blank fire to disperse thousands of protestors from Singjamei side around 7.00 pm (IST) who came to meet the Governor.
(6): Former CM Rishang Keishing comments, "Why ceasefire is extended up to
Manipur?"
(7): AMSU, United Peoples Front, UPF, Apunba Manipur Kanba Lup, AMKIL, National Identity Protection Committee, NIPCO, International Peace and Social

June 18 
(1): Protestors from all directions gather spontaneously defying curfew
imposed earlier in front of Raj Bhavan after overcoming security barricades
amidst the lathi charge, tear gas shells, demanding withdrawal of the Extension of Ceasefire from Manipur.
(2): Manipur Assembly Secretariat, Political Party Offices, MLA quarters including Chief minister's office turned into ashes by the protestors. Offices/Quarters burnt by the angry mob are as follows:

Communist Party of India office

Quarters/Offices of MLAs destroyed by the protestors included those of M.Oken, M.Hemanta, K.Govindas, Hangkhanpao and Dr.Nimaichand Luwang.
Fifty-four vehicles also destroyed and burnt.
(3): Two MLAs- K.Tomba and N.Bihari suffer severe burn injuries.
(4): Speaker S.Dhananjoy caught and beaten by the protestors.
(5): Thirteen protestors shot dead by CRPF personnel.
(6): Seven-Color flag of Manipur hoisted in front of Raj Bhavan.

June 19
(1): Protestors continue burning of Political Party Offices - Congress
office at Checkon,Imphal and MSCP office at Nambol- amidst tight curfew.
(2): AMSU, AMUCO, NIPCO, UPF, AMKIL and IPSA give ultimatum to all MLAs and MPs to resign by 6 pm today.
(3): Assam student body warns against Ceasefire Extension.
(4): More support of the movement and strong condemnation of the firing incident by the following groups.
a) Majokhul Young Association. b) Dimdailong, Sanjenthong. c) Ragailong Youth Club, Pandon. d) Langol Ramgailong villages. e) Hmar Students Association Joint HQs Imphal. f) Young Paite Association, Imphal. g) Thaninkhul (Karong) Youth Club, Bishnupur and many other Manipuri Muslim and Meitei organizations.
(5): Curfew imposed in Churachandpur district.

incident has her right leg amputated.

June 20 
(1): Mass cremation of 13 Protestors killed in the agitation  held at Kekrupat.
(2): Manipuri Students Association, Delhi plans rally at National capital.
(3): Manipur MLAs resolve to resign if Center does not withdraw its decision to extend Ceasefire beyond Nagaland by July 31, 2001.

(3): Three ticket counters of private bus services destroyed by protestors at
Jiribam.
(4): Home minister LK.Advani convenes a meeting with Manipur MLAs at Delhi
on June 23.

June 22 
(1): Firing toll rises to 14. Th.Biren Singh, 26 succumb to bullet injuries.
(2): At Langthabal, Meitei and Kabui Communities jointly hold a meeting and strongly oppose the Extension of Ceasefire to Manipur.
(3): Following organizations opposes the Truce Extension: Komrem Union,
Manipur, Leishangkhong Kabui Popular Club, Chingkhulong Kabui Village Thoubei, Dimdaijang Youths Club, Hiyangthang Kabui Club, Kongkham Kabui Youths Club, Old Lambulane Women and Children's Development Society and Youths Union, Kuki Inpi Manipur, etc.

June 23 
(1): Manipuri Students Asociation, Delhi holds rally in Delhi against
Truce Extension.
(2): In a meeting with Manipur MLAs and MPs, the Home Minister gives his assurance to review the "issues arising out of the ceasefire agreement."

June 24
(1): Various organizations belonging to the Bangladesh Manipuri Community strongly oppose the Ceasefire Extension to Manipur.
(2): Twelve-hour Bandh in the North Cachar Hill district of Assam against
Ceasefire Extension.
(3): Following organizations of Churachandpur district demand immediate
withdrawal of Ceasefire Extension and a constitutional safeguard of Manipur
State: Meitei Society, Hmar Inpui, Vaiphei National Organization, Mizo People's Convention, Simte Tribe Council, Paite National; Council, Churachandpur District Students" Union, Pam Youth Federation and Meitei Youths Organization.
(4): Prime Minister AB.Vajpayee states that Center will expedite the review of

June 25 
(1): CPM, Manipur State rejects PM's assurance.
(2): All India Kuki Women Human Rights Organization, Manipur condemns the firing incident of June 18 and strongly opposes the Ceasefire Extension.
(3): State Government decides to pay ex-gratia for June 18 victims.
(4): NDA meeting can be called on Truce: George Fernandes, convener of NDA.
(5): Assam Governor blames Central government for violence in Manipur and says
that the Extension of Ceasefire without territorial limits is a mistake on the
part of the Government of India.

June 26

to be held in Punjab in protest against Extension of Ceasefire to Manipur.

(3): Thousands of protestors take to the streets.

(5): NESCOCOMI (North East Students' Co-Ordinating Committee on Manipur
Identity) a joint body of AMSU, All Assam Manipuri Students' Union and All
Tripura Manipuri Students' Association demands immediate withdrawal of Ceasefire Extension from Manipur.

June 27 
(1): NSCN (I-M) does not have Nagas' mandate, says NSCN (K).
(2): AMUCO, AMSU, AMKIL, NIPCO, IPSA and UPF adopt historic declaration to protect the Territorial Integrity of Manipur.
(3): Kuki Students' Organization, Delhi, take to the streets in New Delhi
protesting the Extension of Ceasefire to Manipur.

(5): Federal party of Manipur demands concrete guarantee for the Territorial

June 28 
(1): Manipur Students' Federation threatens to banish following Political

(2): Manipur violence of June 18 is spontaneous and expected: George
Fernandes.
(3): Arrested AMSU leaders prepare to launch stir inside the jail in which they are lodged.
(4): Rallies taken out at Sylhet in Bangladesh and Jiribam, Imphal East
district against the Extension of Ceasefire to Manipur.
(5): United Naga Council holds meeting at Senapati but meeting was inconclusive and decision made to continue the next day.
(6): Kakhulong Youth Committee, Kakhulong Peikai (Thoubal) and Kakhulong Women Society strongly reacts to the press statement of All Zeliangrong Students
Union (Assam, Manipur, Nagaland) released on June 27 and clarifies that the
Headquarter of such organization is not in Kakhulong. They further claimed that the view of such organization is not that of the Zeliangrong people.

June 29 
(1): Northeast Students Organization (NESO) states that no third party
should pay the price for the peace process between the Central Government and
the NSCN (I-M).
(2): All Assam Students Union, AASU, threatens to intensify its agitation
against the Extension of Ceasefire.
(3): Dharnas, rallies continue non-stop against the Extension of Ceasefire.
(4): Manipur Lawyers join the movement against the Extension of Ceasefire.

June 30
(1): Protests continue in various parts of Manipur.

July 1 
(1): Non-Resident Manipuris of UK strongly condemn the Extension of Ceasefire to Manipur. Meeting called on 2.07.2001 in London to form "Save Manipur
Association."

July 2 
(1): Arunachal Pradesh cabinet opposes Truce Extension in Arunachal Pradesh.
(2): Aribam Shyam Sharma, renowned filmmaker decides to shun all National
Films festivals.
(3): Political Parties of Manipur hold meeting and form a six-member
Committee to chalk out future course of action to demand immediate withdrawal of the Truce Extension.
(4): A general body meeting of 72 Zeliangrong villages comprising Pei (Thoubei), Youth club and women bodies of Manipur valley held and pledge to protect territorial integrity of Manipur.
(5): Yairipok Maring villagers express their solidarity and support to the
ongoing movement.

July 3 
(1): Two eminent personalities Padmashree MK.Binodini Devi and
Padmashree Ratan Thiyam decide to disown Padmashree titles in support of the
ongoing movement.
(2): BJP flags and document along with photograph of Prime Minister, AB. Vajpayee burnt by MSF volunteers.
(3): Kuki-Inpi Manipur strongly condemns the Center and demands withdrawal of Ceasefire Extension from Manipur.

July 4
(1): Shradha ceremony of June 18 victims. No untoward incident.
(2): A committee called "United Committee Manipur", UCM consisting of AMSU,
AMUCO, AMKIL, NIPCO, IPSA and UPF formed.
(3): Manipuri Muslims pledge to fight for the territorial integrity of Manipur.
(4): United Naga Council, UNC organizes rally in some hill districts welcoming the Extension of Ceasefire to Manipur territory. Few people turn up.
(5): A 24-hour bandh was called in Jiribam protesting against the Extension of
Ceasefire without territorial limits.

July 5
(1): Union minister of state, ID.Swami and his team visits Manipur. Due
to mounting tension, the ministerial team reaches Raj Bhavan via a diverted route to avoid the protestors lined up on the roadsides.
(2): Lakhs of women protestors defying curfew at night take out torch rallies in both the districts of Imphal. Tear gas and rubber bullets used to disperse the rally that rocked Imphal city. A woman is killed and many injured.
(3): Eighteen villages of Imphal East district express stiff opposition to the
Extension of Ceasefire.
(4): Kuki Students Organization calls Bandh against the Extension of Ceasefire
to Manipur.
(5): NSCN (K) Amamchat region cautions the people of Manipur not to fall into
the trap laid by the NSCN (I-M) and GOI and appeals for restraint.
(6): Anti-cease fire agitation gains momentum. Dimasha Students Union, All
Assam Manipuri Students Union and other student organizations stage massive
rally in Haflong, Assam.

July 6 
(1): Tribal chiefs of Moreh, Chandel district calls a 13-hour Bandh
on NH-39 to oppose the Extension of Ceasefire to Manipur.
(2): A public meeting of different communities held at Deulahland Kids School that include Tangkhul, Mao, Mizo, Kuki, Paite, Zou, Chiru, Nepali, Bengali and Manipuri Muslims, opposing the extension of Ceasefire to Manipur.
(3): Union Minister LK.Advani states that if need be, a resolution to protect the boundaries of the states of the Northeast will be placed in the Parliament.
(4): AMUCO refuses to meet Union minister of state (Home) ID.Swami.
(5): Assam and Meghalaya CMs calls for Truce review.
(6): Lawyers of Manipur submit memorandum to Union Minister of state, ID.
Swami.
(7): ID.Swami assures that the Territorial Integrity of the Northeastern States will not be jeopardized.
(8): Meira Paibis and local volunteers took to the street with torch in hands
and shouting slogans against the Extension of Ceasefire without territorial
limits. A woman is killed at Kwakeithel area.

July 7 
(1): Lakhs of people defy imposition of curfew and stage mammoth Dharna
against the Extension of Ceasefire in Manipur.
(2): ID.Swami airlifted to Tulihal airport from Raj Bhavan enroute to New Delhi amidst mass sit-in protests along the airport road.
(3): State MPs and MLAs threaten to resign from Parliament and State Assembly if the Extension of Ceasefire beyond Nagaland is not withdrawn by July 31.
(4): Manipur Olympic Association, MOA decides to disown Raj Bhalendra Trophy and other medals bagged by Manipur State Players in the Vth National Games held in Imphal.
(5): Indian Sports Personalities and Arjuna Award Winners N.Kunjarani and Ng.Dingko declare intention to disown honors awarded them.
(6): Wives of MLAs sit on Dharna at Bapupara.
(7): Rallies conducted at Kakching Khunou, Waikhong, Tuibong, Jiribam and
Changangei where nine women sustained injuries.

July 8 
(1): National Youth Awardees threaten to boycott National Youth
Festival.
(2): All Manipur Senior Citizens Welfare Association strongly opposes the
Extension of Ceasefire in Manipur.
(3): Sixty persons injured in police firing, lathicharge and tear-gas
attacks. Persons belonging to the Kabui Community among casualties at Bishnupur district.
(4): Center decides to review NSCN ceasefire including the words "without
territorial limits" In a joint meeting attended by the Prime Minister AB.
Vajpayee, Home Minister LK.Advani, Minister of State (Home) ID.Swami, Center's interlocutor K.Padmanabhaiah and elected legislators from Manipur, the Government of India decides to review Ceasefire Extension. The PM also makes an appeal to the people of Manipur.

July 9 
(1): United Committee Manipur, UCM expresses reservation on the term
"review" and pledges to carry on the agitation until complete withdrawal of Ceasefire from Manipur.
(2): Rallies and Dharna continue in different parts of the state joined by
people from different communities.
(3): One policeman and four Manipuri students were hurt in a clash in front of
Manipur Bhavan, New Delhi.

July 10 
(1): AMUCO resolves to continue democratic protests.
(2): Six students announce intention to self immolate on August 2, 2001 if the Center refuse to withdraw the Ceasefire from Manipur by August 1, 2001.
(3): AMSU, IPSA, UPF, AMKIL & NIPCO rule out holding talks with GOI without the approval of the people.
(4): RAW arranges Indian passport for Th.Muivah, says Hindustan Times.
(5): RSS pledge to protect territorial integrity of Manipur.
(6): All Arunachal Pradesh Students Union, AAPSU calls for a mass rally in the
State against the Extension of Ceasefire to other Northeastern states.

July 11 
(1): Five thousand Manipuri residents take to the streets protesting
against the Extension of Ceasefire to Manipur at Guwahati.
(2): A six-member delegation of the All Manipur College Teachers' Association,
AMCTA led by its president L.Ranjit Roy meet with the visiting team of Congress MPs and apprises them of the situation in Manipur in detail. Memorandum also submitted.

July 12 
(1): At Kangpokpi, a joint meeting of Kuki Students Organization, KSO
Sadar Hills, Kuki Women Union, Kuki Inpi and chiefs of the area strongly
oppose the Extension of Ceasefire.

July 13 
(1): Lives of Naga leaders who spoke against the Extension of Ceasefire 
threatened.
(2): Thirteen students of Praja H/S school, Lamshang start fast unto death.
(3): Massive cycle rallies attended by people of various age groups conducted at three different districts - Churachandpur, Bishenpur and Thoubal districts.     (4):NSCN (I-M) condemns the 20th Assam Rifles stationed in Ukhrul for
attacking and killing its cadres at the Laii Village on July 11, even after the Bangkok agreement to extend the Ceasefire to all Naga-inhabited areas.
(5): Th.Muivah, Gen Secy, NSCN (I-M) acquitted by Thai Court.
(6): NSCN (I-M) and NSCN (K) conflict sends people of Wokha town indoors at Wokha district (Nagaland).

July 14 
(1): NSCN (I-M) states that it would not be a party to any change in the
June 14 bilateral Ceasefire Agreement signed at Bangkok.
(2): More than 2000 people of the Kabui Community belonging to 12 villages stage a sit-in dharna at Manipur University gate. The leaders of the group vehemently object the claims made by some group that Kabuis are Nagas. They said that Nagas are there in Nagaland and not in Manipur. They also vowed to protect the territorial Integrity of Manipur.
(3): SC.Jamir, CM Nagaland states that NSCN (I-M) cadres are mainly from Manipur and Nagas of Nagaland do not treat them as Nagas. In Nagaland NSCN (K) is more powerful and GOI should not ignore this group.

July 15 
(1): Indian Trade Union Congress, Manipur Branch submits a memorandum
to the President of India complaining against the NSCN (I-M) Ceasefire Extension stating that their cadres are resorting to looting and killing on National Highway No 39.
(2): More than 5000 auto rickshaws parade for a rally against the Extension of
Ceasefire.
(3): Protest and sit-in Dharnas continue at different parts of Manipur attended by people from different communities.
(4): Manipur MPs and MLAs forum meet all the important MPs of Lok Sabha and Rajya Sabha who are in favor of the Withdrawal of the Extension of NSCN (I-M) ceasefire from Manipur. Rajya Sabha MP W.Angou and Lok Sabha (Outer) MP Holkhomang Haokip are the main campaigners.
(5): G.Namdong resigns from the post of chairman Zeliangrong Union (Assam,
Manipur and Nagaland) Imphal zone on health ground.

July 16 
(1): About 15,000 rickshaws participate in the rally presenting a
spectacular sight as they stretched nose-to-bumper along the rally route.
(2): Kuki body calls for a Hills Bandh against Truce Extension.
(3): UCM calls general strike on July 23, 2001.
(4): A 12-hour Bandh against the Ceasefire Extension called by Asom Jatiyabadi Yaba Chatra Parishad.
(5): Sit-in protests and Dharnas at more than 60 places reported.

July 17
(1): Governor of Manipur Ved Marwah forms a 44-member Communal
Harmony Committee.
(2): Around 2000 four wheelers take out rally in Imphal.
(3): Central Agricultural University, Iroishemba stage a sit-in Dharna.
(4): Mulayam Singh Yadav, president Samajwadi Party makes announcement to introduce Adjournment Motion in the Parliament session commencing in the last week of July 2001.

July 18 
(1): Agitation against the ceasefire extension continues at different places of Manipur and Assam.

July 19 
(1): Nagas from Nagaland hold a meeting at Senapati after crossing into Manipur. State government does not intervene and remain a silent spectator.
(2): State government announce a 2-day holiday for all educational institutions starting from July 20 to enable the maintenance of law and order in Manipur.
(3): Prime Minister calls for a meeting with UCM on July 21.
(4): L.Anita Chanu, an international weightlifter decides to disown her lifetime gold medals in protest against the Ceasefire Extension.

July 20 
(1): Many students participate in move to surrender textbooks to the Governor of Manipur, organized by AMSU. Situation goes out of control and security forces try to disperse students by resorting to lathicharge and propelling tear gas shells, rubber bullets and live bullets. Many students injured and one man killed by police firing. Number of victims increases to sixteen.
(2): UCM demands Governor of Manipur, Ved Marwah's resignation.
(3): UCM meets LK.Advani and pressures the GOI to withdraw Extension of
Ceasefire from Manipur.
(4): CPI urges PM to revoke the Truce Extension before Parliament session starts.

July 21
